A Walk Through Boston, MA (One Color at a Time)

I’d like to believe that I’m not alone when I claim that sometimes I pine incessantly over the different possibilities of my future, that I fail to acknowledge the beauty of the present in front of me. We’re all so consumed by the what-if’s and the next check-marks on our to-do lists that we don’t focus on the here and now as much as we should. Even during vacations we’re guilty of thinking about the endless tasks awaiting us when we return home. As a result, for many of us, “relaxing” is not a word in our vocabulary. However, thanks to a TikTok trend I encountered a couple days ago, I’ve found an effective method to stay present and practice mindfulness in my day-to-day life: a color walk.

How does it work? It’s simple: before going on a walk, pick a color and try to look for as many things that correspond to that color as possible during your walk. It’s a seamless activity that gives your brain a break from all the stress of tasks and planning, and the best part is that it can be a group activity as well while you’re traveling or out with friends!

While visiting Boston, my friends and I decided to tour the city and simultaneously complete a color walk, taking pictures of anything related to our assigned color as we went. Not only was this a fun way to experience the city, but it also allowed for full immersion of the experience and resulted in some cool-looking collages. So, next time you’re feeling overwhelmed about your future, or you want to do something fun and simple while traveling somewhere new, all you have to do is pick a color– any color– and go for a walk.
