Book Review: Ignite Me

I was really expecting to love this book, but so far this is my least favorite in the series.

My main issue with is book is Aaron Warner. I want to love him, especially because he is blond and short, but I honesty just can’t. I can look past and forgive Aaron for the mistakes he’s made, but the point is he’s not willing to change. He expects Juliette to love him for being toxic and doesn’t think for one second that maybe she just deserves better. For example, when Juliette calls him out for shooting a man in front of her, he defends himself and even gaslights her, making her apologize instead. Look, actions do speak louder than words and I understand there were reasons behind what Aaron has done in the past, but he should have still apologized and try to understand where he went wrong.

It also kind of annoyed me how easily the Omega Point team was willing to work with Aaron. Honestly, Adam kinda had a point, why should they all of a sudden move on and forget the terrible things Aaron has done to them. He was given no redemption arc and only decides to help them because he hates his dad and is obsessed with Juliette. I also just hated how this book prioritized the romance and spice over the plot.

Listen, I love morally grey and villainous characters, but if they’re gonna be a love interest, their partner has to either been just as bad or they have to learn to become a better person. Just because a villainous man falls in love with a woman, that doesn’t mean he has suddenly become a good person and needs to want to change not just for their lover but for themselves too.
