The Hidden Cost of Overthinking
How much thinking can take away your peace, time and confidence

Have you ever thought about the same conversation over and over again?
Maybe you said something. Then thought, "Did I say the wrong thing?"
Maybe you are worried about something that has not happened yet.
This is what overthinking is.
Thinking is helpful.
It helps us solve problems and make decisions.
When we think too much it can be a problem.
It can make us feel bad and lose confidence.
What is overthinking?
Overthinking is when you think about the thing many times but you do not find a solution.
You may think about what happened in the past.
You may think, "Why did I do that?"
You may worry about what will happen in the future.
You may think, "What if something goes wrong?"
The problem is not thinking.
The problem is thinking about things that do not help us.
We cannot change the past.
One of the reasons we overthink is because we think about the past too much.
You may wish you had done something differently.
The past is already gone.
We can learn from our mistakes.
We should not think about them too much.
Of thinking "Why did I do that?" try thinking, "What can I learn from it?"
One way of thinking keeps us stuck.
The other way helps us grow.
We cannot control the future.
Another reason we overthinking is because we worry about the future.
We think about what might happen.
We try to prepare for problems that might come.
It is good to plan.
It is not good to worry too much.
We can prepare for tomorrow.
We cannot control everything that will happen tomorrow.
Sometimes the best thing to do is focus on what we can do today.
Overthinking can take away our time.
When we think about the problem many times we waste our time.
We may spend hours thinking about what to do.
The solution might be simple.
Of thinking we should act.
Of thinking about starting something we should start.
Of thinking about asking something we should ask.
Action can make things clear.
Thinking alone cannot always do that.
Overthinking can also affect our confidence.
When we question ourselves much we can lose confidence.
We may think, "Was that the choice?"
We may think, "What will people think?"
We may think, "Maybe I'm not good enough."
Confidence does not mean we always make the right decision.
Confidence means we trust ourselves.
We trust ourselves to handle what happens next.
We trust ourselves to learn from our mistakes.
Not every thought is important.
Our minds think thoughts.
Not all of them are true.
A thought can be a fear or a possibility.
Before we believe a thought we should ask, "Is this true or am I just afraid?"
That question can help us stop worrying.
How to stop overthinking
We do not have to fight every thought.
We can just change how we respond to it.
- Write down your thoughts.
If your mind is crowded write down what you are thinking.
It can help you understand your thoughts better.
- Focus on what you can control.
Ask yourself "What can I do about this now?"
If you can do something take a step.
If you cannot do anything now let it go for now.
- Do not look for decisions.
Sometimes we think much because we want to make the perfect decision.
Perfect decisions do not always exist.
Make the decision you can and learn as you go.
- Give yourself a break.
Your mind needs rest.
Spend time away from your phone and other things that can distract you.
Read, walk or talk to someone you trust.
- Come back to the present.
When you think much about the past or future come back, to the present.
Ask yourself "What is happening now?"
Then focus on what you can do
You do not have to solve everything today.
Some problems take time.
Some answers come slowly.
You do not have to figure out your future today.
Sometimes getting through today is enough.
Take one step.
Then take another.
You may not know where you are going. You can keep moving.
Overthinking is not always helpful.
Sometimes the answer is not to think more.
Sometimes the answer is to accept things.
Sometimes the answer is to act.
Sometimes the answer is to wait.
Take care of your peace.
Learn from the past.
Prepare for the future.
Do not forget to live in the present.
Your mind needs peace too.
