The Stand and the Pulse

A brief meditation on two radically different visions of existence: Heidegger’s resoluteness, where authenticity emerges through conscious confrontation with Being, and Spinoza’s conatus, the silent striving through which every entity persists in its existence. One is existential decision, the other ontological momentum. Yet both resist disappearance. Both insist on presence against the drift toward nothingness.

Heidegger’s resoluteness: not a leap, but a stand, holding fast through the fracture, unmoved in the sand. No borrowed scripts, no escape from the weight, just facing your being before it’s too late.

Spinoza’s conatus hums under it all, in the root and the river, the rise and the fall. A universe striving, not choosing, just being, each thing gripping existence, unknowing, unseeing.

One is a choice, the other a pulse, one answers the silence, one moves by impulse. Yet both refuse the sleep of the ghost, both cling to the spark they embody the most.

One says: become. The other: persist. Yet both answer darkness with this: I exist.

The author writes at the crossing of phenomenology, theology, and language, drawn to the strange discipline of paying attention. Here are reflections on thought, interpretation, writing, and the habits of mind that resist drifting through existence half-awake.
