Ethereum Falls Below $1,900 as BitMine’s Reported ETH Holdings Face Unrealized Losses
Ethereum has fallen below the $1,900 level, placing renewed attention on corporate cryptocurrency holdings and long-term accumulation strategies. Crypto analyst Ted Pillows drew attention to the development in a post on X, stating that BitMine began acquiring Ethereum when the asset traded near $2,400. In the analyst’s estimation, however, the firm has already acquired around $18 billion worth of Ether tokens, and at this point in time, it is suffering unrealized losses worth roughly $8.8 billion based on the prevailing market prices.
The news arrives against a backdrop where the Ethereum token is trading significantly lower compared to past cycle highs, and the Bitcoin blockchain remains the gold standard when it comes to participating in the crypto market space.
Ted Pillows Draws Attention to BitMine’s Ethereum Position
Ted Pillows shared a weekly Ethereum chart showing the period when BitMine reportedly initiated its ETH purchases. The chart marked Ethereum near the $2,400 region before the asset entered a strong upward trend that later pushed prices toward the $5,000 level.
However, Ethereum failed to sustain those gains. The chart showed a prolonged decline after the peak, with successive lower highs and lower lows forming over multiple months. The latest candle placed ETH below $1,900, extending the broader downtrend visible on the weekly timeframe.
According to the analyst’s post, BitMine continued accumulating Ethereum throughout this period. The reported buying activity totaled roughly $18 billion worth of ETH. Based on current pricing, the position remains below its acquisition value.
Ethereum Price Trend Remains Under Pressure
From the chart above, there is a clear change in the market structure as Ethereum rallies to cycle highs. At the upper end around $5,000, sellers took charge and pulled the coin into a correction phase.
There have been multiple rallies witnessed during the correction. However, none of them succeeded in marking a higher high, and thus the downtrend was maintained. Ethereum currently trades at levels not seen since part of its prior rally.
There are also clear levels that could serve as a key reference for price action. Among them, the $2,400 region stands out. This level coincides with the level at which BitMine was reported to accumulate its stake
Bitcoin Comparison Continues to Shape Market Discussion
Comparing Bitcoin is crucial when investors consider how the digital asset class is performing. In spite of the steep fall of Ethereum compared to its peak, Bitcoin is still the reference asset used by institutions.
The debate about the BitMine holdings has shifted the conversation towards the issue of unrealized losses in companies’ crypto portfolios. Unrecorded losses are decreases in the value of crypto assets that can only be realized through sales.
The community is waiting to see where Ethereum heads next following an evaluation of support and other factors affecting the crypto space.
