Last night one of the other tenants told me that the fridge/freezer had broken down.
She was quite correct so I had to check if any food had gone bad. I disposed of a few items.
In the earlier years of my childhood my parents didn’t have a fridge. Food was put in the pantry. In fact we had a TV before we had a fridge — the first fridge in our house was one which was a gas fridge.
But nowadays most people are used to fridges.
One of my fellow lodgers had bought quite a large supply of frozen shrimp. He has disposed of them but the memory of the stink of them “going off” lingers on.
Does anyone reading this recall living without a refrigerator? Is there any other modern convenience a reader might miss if it malfunctioned? Is there a smell one doesn’t want to linger on?
The fridge in the rental property where I’m staying is working again now — for which I am VERY thankful
