Axone Roadmap: From Testnet to the Semantic Layer of Decentralized AI

The past months have been a defining moment for Axone. What began as an experiment in data and service sharing has now evolved into a protocol with a clear mission: to become the semantic governance & orchestration layer for decentralized AI. This update is not just a list of milestones. It is a story of choices, trade-offs, and a vision for the future.
Technical Update: Testnet and Smart Contracts
One of the first decisions we had to make for this upgrade was whether to take a lighter, incremental path or commit fully. After careful consideration, we opted to proceed directly to the latest stable release of the Cosmos SDK (v0.53.4). This way, the chain will run on a solid and up-to-date foundation rather than postponing necessary work to a future upgrade. Because our chain executes smart contracts, it is equally important to keep the smart contract stack up to date. That’s why this upgrade also includes the transition to the latest stable versions of Wasmd and Wasmvm. Both are required to ensure CosmWasm runs reliably and securely, providing us with the foundation we need for the advanced contracts we’re building with Axone.
Our new testnet, axone-dendrite-2, went live on September 21st, 2025, at 13:37 UTC. It launched with a total supply of 500M tokens, and validators have already begun joining the network. For now, it runs the same version as mainnet, but we are preparing to upgrade soon to the latest Cosmos SDK, along with wasmd and wasmvm, to keep everything aligned. This upgrade will introduce state changes and, therefore, requires coordination; however, this is expected in a testnet environment. Once this upgrade is complete, IBC will be enabled again, allowing us to resume testing of bridges and cross-chain interactions in a safe environment. Smart contracts will not be released in one massive update, but will instead be deployed progressively, giving builders room to experiment while reducing systemic risks.
Governance and Validators: Expanding the Active Set
Community governance is at the heart of Axone. Today, 82 validators are registered, but only 50 have an active slot. That leaves more than thirty validators who are technically ready but unable to participate in securing the network. Unsurprisingly, frustration has been growing.
After several weeks of discussion, we have decided to move forward with a proposal to expand the active set from 50 to 65 validators. The change will not increase overall rewards, which means each validator’s share will be slightly diluted. However, the symbolic importance is greater than the numbers: it demonstrates that Axone values inclusivity and acknowledges the efforts of those who have committed resources without yet being part of the active community.
If approved, the new parameter will be applied automatically on-chain by the governance mechanism. No additional intervention will be needed. By the end of November, this adjustment will achieve a better balance between cohesion and sustainability, with a re-evaluation planned for the start of 2026.
From Smart Contracts to Real Usage
The roadmap is not about ticking boxes. It is about moving from raw infrastructure to meaningful applications.
In the short term, the priority is to have smart contracts live on the testnet by the end of September, and to support the first experiments with Zones, templates, and workflows. Our collaboration with Dataionics (in the Earth Observation (EO) industry) will be essential here. They will act as early adopters, building and testing the first Zones, while Dataionics prepares to become one of the first concrete users of Axone’s infrastructure in B2B world.
The medium-term goal is to bring Axone to the market. A listing on Osmosis and other decentralized exchanges is planned for the end of 2026, alongside the deployment of early applications in fields such as healthcare, legal data spaces, and Earth observation. Partnerships with Fetch.ai, Akash, Ta-Da, and Zero Gravity will strengthen the ecosystem.
Looking further ahead, the ambition is to launch the Universal Discovery Layer and begin testing neuro-symbolic agents that combine logical reasoning with statistical learning. This is not a futuristic dream but a continuation of Axone’s mission: to provide the coordination fabric that billions of agents will need to collaborate, transact, and self-govern.
Communication and Transparency
We know that credibility in this space extends beyond code. It is also about transparency. That is why we have opened a dedicated Discord channel, “testnet-validators” to coordinate validator onboarding. Regular updates will continue to be published on Medium, LinkedIn, and X, ensuring that all stakeholders remain informed.
The website will also be updated with a streamlined roadmap. The goal is not to promise the moon, but to present a clear picture of where Axone is headed and how it plans to achieve its goals.
Partnerships as Catalysts
Partnerships are not side notes. They are the accelerators of adoption. Dataionics will play a crucial role by testing the orchestration of Zones, while Dataionics will demonstrate Axone’s relevance in transforming raw satellite data into AI-ready intelligence. These collaborations show how Axone can bridge experimental blockchain infrastructure with high-value real-world applications.
Beyond that, we are exploring synergies with the ASI Alliance and SingularityNET around neuro-symbolic AI. The complementarity is obvious: while projects like OpenCog Hyperon tackle the foundations of cognitive architectures, Axone provides the orchestration layer that can make such systems interoperable, verifiable, and economically sustainable.
Why Axone Matters
Without Axone, the agentic web faces three hard barriers: endless N² integrations, rigid or untrustworthy governance, and semantic incompatibility between systems. With Axone, these barriers can be overcome. An on-chain ontology provides a shared language that facilitates communication. A Prolog-based reasoning engine ensures that orchestration rules are verifiable and auditable. Governance Zones allow multiple models to coexist while preserving security. And decentralized identifiers ensure that coordination is not only possible but also trustless.
This combination is what makes Axone unique. It is not just another blockchain. It is the missing layer that turns fragmented AI silos into a coherent, composable ecosystem.
What Comes Next
The immediate horizon is clear: smart contracts will live on testnet in September, validator set expansion is planned for November, and a first wave of applications is expected before the listing, scheduled for 2026. From there, the focus will shift to scaling adoption, launching the Universal Discovery Layer, and paving the way for neuro-symbolic agents.
Step by step, Axone is building the semantic and economic clearinghouse of the agentic web.
