NAMASTE NOW!

Decide for Yourself Your Burdens

A poem

Poet’s photos

Poet’s photos

the weight of waiting can snap you beyond repair or patience pays off sometimes there’s no damage done fence and life round you still stand

trust your gut please don’t fear the reaper nor others’ opinions

This is my third poem in reaction to Carolyn Hastings’s July challenge to create poetry around the innumerably infinite possibilities around the concept of waiting:

Carolyn challenges us to think with these contributions of hers:

“We’re constantly reminded that life is too short to be wasted and yet we find ourselves in an endless vortex of waiting, waiting, waiting…

For what?

Well, if you’re a poet you’ll know the answer.

It’s poetry, of course! 😊

Poets can write about anything…anywhere…anytime their muse takes them.

For some, there’s a fatalistic, Doomsday, fear-driven resignation to waiting as Chuck Palahniuk uncovers in his novel, Choke, “After you find out all the things that can go wrong, your life becomes less about living and more about waiting.”

For others, waiting is the catalyst for change —

I was standing there, waiting for someone to do something, till I realised the person I was waiting for was myself. Markus Zusak, in The Underdog … I must change my life so that I can live it, not wait for it. Susan Sontag

….because, as Dejan Stojanović tells us in his poem, The Open Door —

The world is always open, Waiting to be discovered.”

Well, this is my third promptsponsive poem — my second in the last two hours, drafting-wise. I wonder while I wait which will post first, or if I should have spaced them — fuck it, I don’t give a fuck, two shits, or three rats’ asses. Ah, it’s been a while since I found a place to write that.

This one I submit to the sweet fruit that is Vidya, because it’s as much a response to the photos I just took, and I see her frequent photo challenge posts even if I don’t engage — they are not my thang, but now I connect, albeit four photos short.

I had wanted to use photos of this fallen tree in my self-published response to Carolyn’s challenge a few days ago, but the pics I snapped then sucked, so I went with the birds’ nest patiently built by the couple to await and raise their young. The picture suffered from poor lighting. Only Joseph Lieungh appreciated what nature blessed me to witness.

Here’s the poem for those that haven’t read it or gleaned the connection to the photo:

Back to the fallen tree — it fell many days before I noticed. Several hours after I looked out the kitchen window while making pasta and saw it lying on its side, I realized that early in the dawn hours, days before, when I awoke and thought I had heard the outer front door slam, as it does when an entrant doesn’t brace it, and then decided I had dreamt it, I had heard the trunk snap.

Would you have walked around looking for another cause of the sound, or grabbed a golf club to axe an intruder, or dismissed it and gone back to sleep as I did?

Now for the obvious song accompaniment:

and a bonus track I fucking love

In Rama I create, with soul energy surging through my body, inspiring me and breathing wind into my sails,
