The Truth About TeePublic: What a Year of Uploads and $3,000 in Sales Actually Taught Me

You’ve seen the videos. Flashy thumbnail, a screenshot of some dashboard, a voice telling you print-on-demand is the easiest money you’ll ever make. TeePublic comes up constantly in that world.

I believed it. I spent a year finding out how much of it was true.

How I Got Started

Back in 2024 I started uploading designs to TeePublic. Simple plan: make art, upload it, let it sell itself. So I did the work. Built out several stores, kept uploading, kept adjusting.

And honestly? It worked. For a while.

Between all my stores I pulled in around $3,000. A few accounts sat comfortably around $200 to $300. My best ones cleared $600 or more. Not life-changing money. But if you’re new to this and just testing whether people will buy your stuff — it’s real proof that they will.

Then the Bans Started

No warning shot. No “you’re on thin ice.” Just gone.

One account disappeared for no reason I could find. Then another. The one that really got me was an account that had done nothing wrong itself — it just happened to share a payment method with another account TeePublic decided to remove. Collateral damage. No explanation, no appeal that went anywhere, no way to even ask what I’d done.

A year of building, gone in an afternoon. That’s not a small thing to sit with.

They Don’t Care About the Artists

I’ll just say it: TeePublic doesn’t seem to care much about the people making the designs.

The whole platform runs on artists. Without us there’s no catalog, no store, nothing to sell. But once you’re in, you’re replaceable. There’s no real support line, no communication when something goes wrong, nobody who treats you like more than a line item on a spreadsheet.

And the pay reflects that. Most sales net the artist about $4. Four dollars, after the design, the listing, the tags, the mockups, the waiting. It’s fine as a first taste of passive income. It stops feeling fine once you realize your entire year of work can vanish with zero notice and that $4 was never really guaranteed to begin with.

The Hype vs. What Actually Happens

Online it looks effortless. Screenshot of monthly earnings, big smile, “look what I made this month.” That’s the version that gets clicks.

Nobody’s filming the part where your account gets nuked with no message. Nobody’s showing the confusing rules that shift under you, or the silence when you email support asking what happened. I fell for the highlight reel too. Most people do — that’s kind of the point of a highlight reel.

Pros and Cons, As I Actually Experienced Them

What’s good:

• Easy to start — no real barrier to entry
• You can genuinely make sales, even as a beginner
• Decent way to test designs and learn what sells

What’s not:

• Payout per sale is low, around $4
• Accounts get banned with no warning and no explanation
• Support is close to nonexistent
• Rules feel like they’re written against you, not for you
• None of it is safe — years of work can disappear overnight

Would I Do It Again?

I’m honestly not sure.

You can put in one year, two years, three — build something real — and still get locked out without a single sentence of explanation. That’s not a hypothetical for me. That’s just what happened.

If you’re a beginner and you’re curious, go ahead and try it. Learn from it. Make a little money while you figure out if this kind of work is even for you. Just don’t build your whole plan around a platform that can erase you without warning, for reasons it won’t even name.

The hype is loud. What actually happens is a lot quieter — and a lot less fun.
