No Condemnation
There is now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit - Romans 8:1
CONDEMNATION, n.
- The act of condemning; the judicial act of declaring one guilty, and dooming them to punishment.
There is an uncomfortable and unavoidable reality that, at various times throughout our lives, we will be guilty of wrongdoing. One would think the key to overcoming it is to avoid it altogether, which is a good practice to strive for by managing our thoughts, words, and actions. But to think we can avoid it altogether is unrealistic.
In our society, the law proclaims we are innocent until proven guilty, but sadly, justice and public opinion are tainted these days as social media and personal opinions based on feelings and public outcries have reversed things, making us guilty until proven innocent.
What options do we have to navigate this area that will give us the best possible outcome?
I would suggest that taking a spiritual (faith-based) approach provides the best long-term results
1.) Honesty - This one is difficult because it requires we take responsibility for our actions. Failure to do so halts any chance at resolution and peace.
For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God - Romans 3:23
2.) Accountability - Our willingness to do what is necessary to redeem our situation as far as we have the power to do so.
He that refuseth instruction despiseth his own soul: But he that heareth reproof getteth understanding - Proverbs 15:32
3.) Help - this aspect is also humbling as it requires us to ask for assistance and become transparent, making ourselves more vulnerable to criticism and possible judgment by others, even if they do not know the whole story or situation beyond the surface level.
God is our refuge and strength, A very present help in trouble - Psalm 46:1
The saving grace in all of this is that if we are willing to by faith place our trust in the finished work of Jesus Christ, we can walk in total freedom regardless of whether we are guilty or not, as he sees all things and knows what's true and what are lies and has already paid the price for every single sin, including those we have yet to commit.
By which we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all - Hebrews 10:10
We must understand that even though we are forgiven, our actions sometimes will still have consequences.
The best way to operate reasonably is to follow in the footsteps of Christ by Bible study, prayer, accountability, and seeking to live a life that pleases God rather than our flesh. As we commit more of ourselves to his model, the more we can overcome our faults and be positively transformed by them rather than being destroyed by them.
What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us - Romans 8:31
The choice is ours alone to make. May we all take advantage of this life-changing offer that quietly awaits us to claim it!
