ICAPS Undergraduate Symposium & Innovation Exhibition

The ICAPS Undergraduate Symposium & Innovation Exhibition 2025 was held on October 10 and it was an incredible experience for us as students of university of Kelaniya. It was an exhibition for students of our university (specially for 3rd years and 4th years) to show their researches and experiments and share the knowledge with other students. As a second year undergraduate I was able to learn lot of new things/technologies about on going researches and those were really interesting.

Here are some examples:

Among these research one of them to my attention a lot. It was the “Elephant early warning system in railway transport”. It is an simple but very impact full project as it can be used to avoid lot of deaths and damages for animals and people. I tried to find the paper ID for this research, but I wasn’t able to that because that label was already removed.

This research is conducted by these awesome people (Keethipala S.D., Dilshan J.K., Jayakodi S.H.S., Senarath P.M.S.N., Shashikala W.K.K.) under the department of Physics and Electronics in university of Kelaniya

In brief what it does is, it’s uses Laser-LDR grid, IR cameras and AI integrated Radar system to detect elements in real time and give a warning message to all people nearby and to the trains. And they have used logic based filtering mechanism to reduce false detection. And they have even thought about energy efficiency by using solar power. And they mentioned that they are going to use Python as the programming language.

Not only these research but also there were lot of practical staff as well including prototypes for these research. Here are some examples:

In conclusion, this event was a wonderful experience I had in my university life. We could learn lot of new things that are out of our syllabus. So, I would like to thank all the people who contributed this this event to bring it to life
