The White Lotus Season 4: Everything We Know So Far — Location, Plot, Cast, Release Date

It’s time to pack your linen shirts and questionable morals because HBO has officially confirmed that Season 4 of The White Lotus is already rolling cameras. This time, with a French accent. With creator Mike White once again writing and directing, the series returns to its signature tone of luxury dramedy, and we absolutely cannot wait!

Early details are already trickling in: the filming location, plot details, a surprise recast, and a potential release date. Here’s everything we know about Season 4 so far.

It’s Filming Right Now in France (And It Looks Expensive)

Season 4 has officially started filming in April 2026 in France. Multiple famous locations will be involved: Cannes, Saint-Tropez, Monaco, with some additional filming in Paris. However, the main storyline will remain along the ultra-blue water and the white-sand beaches of the Côte d’Azur.

The first 3 seasons of White Lotus were set in Hawaii, Sicily, and Thailand and primarily filmed at the famous Four Seasons resorts. However, season 4 will not continue this tradition of using the US-owned luxury hotel chain. Two main properties in the South of France were selected as “White Lotus” hotels. Airelles Château de la Messardière, a 19th-century palace in Saint-Tropez, will be featured as White Lotus du Cap, and the famous Hôtel Martinez as White Lotus Cannes.

With the French Riviera as its unapologetically glamorous playground, the usual suspects will likely follow: expensive yachts, palm-lined promenades, and probably at least one emotional breakdown in designer sunglasses.

Plot: The Cannes Film Festival

The official premise of Season 4 will “follow a new group of White Lotus hotel guests and employees over the span of a week, taking place during the Cannes Film Festival.” Although it’s only a tiny snippet of information, it’s fair to expect the usual cocktail of entitlement and passive-aggression, now probably mixed with celebrities, filmmakers, and industry egos.

Creator Mike White basically confirmed this to Entertainment Tonight by saying: “Season four is about fame. There are some people who are satisfied with the love of one intimate partner or a family, and then there are some people who need the love of strangers, they need that kind of affirmation.” And producer David Bernad has also added that season 4 is “about the arts and what it is to be an artist”. White has also mentioned that “there is always room for more murders” and that’s all the confirmation the White Lotus fans needed to breathe a collective sigh of relief as the series returns to its signature style.

Unlike previous seasons that stayed mostly inside the resort bubble, Season 4 is expanding its scope. The story will move beyond the hotel and into the surrounding world, taking a behind-the-scenes look

inside the film industry itself (reportedly drawing inspiration from Apple TV’s The Studio). So we can only expect more wider lens shots and a bigger ensemble, where everyone convinced they’re the main character.

Who Is In The Cast of Season 4?

As always, the cast is absolutely stacked. This time, leading the rich people lineup are: Vincent Cassel, Steve Coogan, Caleb Jonte Edwards, Dylan Ennis, Corentin Fila, Ari Graynor, Marissa Long, Alexander Ludwig, Chris Messina, AJ Michalka, Kumail Nanjiani, and Nadia Tereszkiewicz. And that’s only the start. The full ensemble is massive, including names like Chloe Bennet, Sandra Bernhard, Heather Graham, Max Greenfield, Frida Gustavsson, Charlie Hall, Jarrad Paul, Rosie Perez, Ben Schnetzer, and Laura Smet.

Helena Bonham Carter was originally the first regular cast member announced for Season 4, but has dropped out of the show just one week into filming due to creative changes to the character. The role is currently being reworked and recast as production continues.

Mike White once again leads the series as creator, writer, and director, with David Bernad and Mark Kamine returning as executive producers.

Which Character Could Tie Season 4 To The Rest Of The Series?

It is unknown whether Season 4 will bring back any returning White Lotus guests, which is now a familiar signature card of the show. Jennifer Coolidge famously bridged Seasons 1 and 2, while Natasha Rothwell resurfaced in Season 3 after her Season 1 debut. Jon Gries has managed to appear in all three installments as the mysterious ever-present Greg. As for who might carry the baton this time, Charlotte Le Bon has emerged as a fun theory by the fans due to her role as Greg’s new partner and ability to speak French fluently. Although at this stage, nothing is confirmed and it’s all just speculation.

When Is Season 4 Being Filmed?

Season 4 is currently filming at Airelles Chateau de la Messardiere, and, according to HBO, the show should be shot between April and October. Production is expected to move from Airelles Chateau de la Messardiere to Cannes for the Cannes Film Festival in May. And interior scenes are scheduled to be filmed in Monaco and Paris during summer.

Release Date

There’s no official release date yet, but since filming is already underway, Season 4 is likely to be released somewhere around the end of 2026 or early 2027. All we can do now is wait and mentally prepare for another round of beautiful people behaving terribly in stunning locations.
