Blue Ridge Hunting Has Some Serious Blair Witch Project Vibes

I’ve been a huge supporter of the Six One Indie crew for a while now. Their work focusing on indie games is exactly what we need in the middle of the industry constantly vomiting all over itself.

So, when they announce that they’re getting into publishing, my ears perk up. Because I’m confident that they know what the hell they’re looking at. And Blue Ridge Hunting is proof of that.

A game set in the Appalachian Mountains where you look for cryptids? Sign me all the way up. I’ll drop some of the features for the game here from the press release:

• Always Listening: Creatures react to proximity voice chat and radio chatter. Communication is crucial, but dangerous.

• Bump In The Night: A narrative-driven story (1–3 players) following the Appalachian Investigation Group’s hunt for the truth.
• Experience The Legends: Face unique, intelligent creatures based on real Appalachian legends and folklore.
• Dark-Bluegrass Symphony: An original score that blends haunting melodies with Appalachian roots, amplifying the tension and tone.

Watching the trailer and reading that reminds me of The Headliners mixed with Dead Letter Dept. (one of my favorite games of the year, not just indie). It’s the perfect blend of atmosphere and chaos that will likely create more than a few viral moments on social media, but it also has a narrative and messaging that suggests an experience that can stay with you long after the credits roll.

I think I’m most excited to see how the cryptids interact with you and teammates throughout the game. Proximity chat has become a staple in online gaming and when used correctly, it’s a great tool that adds to the immersion. How much communicating are you willing to do when you know you have something breathing down your neck?

Jade Meadows may have something here that ends up sitting on a few lists by the end of next year and I can’t wait to check it out. You can wishlist Blue Ridge Hunting on Steam now in advance of its release in 2026.
