Fun fact! We can still survive without a spleen, but with higher risk of infection, because it plays a role in our immune system

Filtering the blood.

“Isn’t that kidneys’ function?”

Kidneys filter our blood by removing unwanted substances in our bloodstream, like proteins and carbohydrates, and keep some important substances we need, like water in certain amount. But the spleen, instread of substances, it filters threats and removes them from our bloodstream. The threads can be dangerous microbes! That’s why we mentioned immune system. So removing it can increase the risk of getting infected because it’s gone, no immune system supporter of detecting threats.
