EthCC 9: Interview with Sail; Personal AI Agents for Digital Money

Most stablecoins in the market sit idle, not generating any profit. But what if you had an AI agent that moved your assets across different DeFi protocols to create the highest yield for you? That’s what Sail is trying to do. Sail is a fully automated DeFi agent built to optimize Stablecoin yields.

It provides a smart, non-custodial system that automatically reallocates deposited capital across multiple Decentralized protocols each day. Its algorithm evaluates expected returns, gas costs, slippage, liquidity, and protocol risk to deliver the highest possible performance. I interviewed Alejandro Dopico, one of the co-founders of Sail, at EthCC 9 in Cannes.

Mahsa: What do you think about EthCC 9?

Alejandro: I think it’s definitely less crowded than in previous years, but honestly, I see that as a positive. When the market isn’t performing at its peak, the real builders stand out more clearly. So overall, I’m really enjoying my time here and I’m looking forward to the next couple of days.

Mahsa: What is Sail?

Alejandro: At Sail, we are building DeFi agents. The first agent we launched was a stablecoin yield agent. Essentially, users can deposit stablecoins, and then an AI agent works on their behalf to secure the best risk-adjusted yield possible. We also operate security agents in the background, so if there’s a hack or any malicious event, the agent is designed to protect your capital. Since launch, we’ve processed more than $500 million in stablecoin volume. We’ve outperformed the broader vault market and major lending protocols.

Mahsa: Tell me more about Sail’s updates, partnerships, or milestones you’d like to share with our community?

Alejandro: We became the first agent in the world to conduct autonomous swaps and bridges in a completely non-custodial way. We also launched euro stablecoin yield products, so we’re no longer limited to just USD stablecoins. In addition, we’re currently in closed beta for our API and SDK, which means neobanks and wallets will be able to integrate our services directly and launch these agents for all of their users. And beyond that, we’re preparing for another major release in the coming months related to the permissionless ledger.

Mahsa: If you had €1 million to invest right now, where would you put your money?

Alejandro: I think diversification is absolutely key, and cash is king in times like these. It’s important to keep a portion of your capital liquid while also generating yield. Personally, I’d allocate part of my capital into Sail, of course, but beyond that, I think there’s tremendous value in DeFi right now. There are strong protocols and projects like Hyperliquid, Morpho, and Sky trading at very attractive valuations. I would continue investing progressively over time rather than deploying everything in one single buy. Dollar-cost averaging into fundamentally strong projects with solid metrics, while maintaining some liquidity that generates yield — that’s what I would personally do.

Mahsa: bearish or bullish for 2026?

Alejandro: I think over the next couple of quarters, we may see some sideways movement and volatility, but by the end of 2026, I’m bullish. I don’t believe BTC is going to stay at these levels forever, and I also think the DeFi projects I mentioned earlier are positioned to perform very well. So overall, I’d definitely say bullish.

Mahsa: Which category within the blockchain industry do you think is becoming the new hype that everyone is focusing on right now?

Alejandro: I think privacy is becoming a major topic. Blockchains are inherently public ledgers, so privacy solutions are increasingly important. Projects focused on private transactions are becoming more relevant because privacy is foundational to freedom. The convergence between DeFi and AI is also incredibly exciting.

Mahsa: Which categories do you think will die out over the next two years?

Alejandro: I think we’re going to see a major shift away from traditional app-heavy ecosystems. In the future, we probably won’t rely on dozens of apps on our phones for every individual task. Instead, we’ll increasingly use agents that perform actions for us. I also think user interfaces themselves are going to change dramatically. Rather than humans directly interacting with applications, agents will increasingly operate in the background on our behalf. So I believe agents will be one of the defining technological themes not just in crypto, but broadly over the next two years.

Mahsa: What keeps you motivated to stay and continue building?

Alejandro: I think if you go a bit deeper and truly understand the technology, it becomes obvious that crypto and DeFi are fundamentally superior financial technologies compared to much of what exists in traditional banking today. Another important perspective is that AI is an abundance technology — it can create almost anything. But blockchain provides digital scarcity. And I think the synergy between abundance through AI and scarcity through blockchain is going to become increasingly obvious. In a world where AI can generate limitless content and systems, blockchain becomes essential in establishing trust, ownership, and scarcity.

Mahsa: You are one of the builders actively shaping this industry right now. What would you say is the hardest part about being a builder in crypto?

Alejandro: First, regulation is a huge challenge because there’s still very limited regulatory clarity almost everywhere. Second, crypto is highly cyclical. When markets are booming, everyone wants to enter crypto, and when markets decline, sentiment shifts dramatically. That dynamic creates a very different environment compared to AI, for example. And third, you’re often dealing directly with people’s money, which adds enormous responsibility. Security becomes critical — you need audits, you need caution, and you need to be extremely careful with every product you launch.

Mahsa: Is there anything else you’d like to share with our audience?

Alejandro: our product is live right now. You can visit Sail Money, try it out for yourself, and get involved with the community. The minimum deposit is just $100 or €100, so it’s very accessible. We’d love for people to test it, share feedback, and grow with us.
