The Day My Daughter Turned Trash Into Treasure

The egg carton was already halfway to the recycling bin when my eight-year-old daughter, Lily, picked it up and asked:

“Wait, we can actually turn this into a Christmas bell?”

What started as a simple holiday craft quickly became something much bigger.

On a quiet December afternoon, Lily was exploring a festive recycled arts and crafts guide filled with projects made from everyday items — egg cartons, cereal boxes, newspapers, old greeting cards, and even lonely socks. Instead of seeing rubbish, she began seeing possibilities.

Looking back, I don’t think Lily simply learned how to make holiday decorations.

She learned that the difference between trash and treasure is often nothing more than imagination.
