Fox Spirit and Vampirism: Eternal Light and Lust Dance for Being Eternal

ENG 4910 and ENG 5910 CRN 16582 Chinese Ghost Tales Before 1900

It starts with love and JUSTICE> > 正义 (zhèng yì)

Growing up in Asia, I learned of a different type of vampire called a fox spirit with nine tails.

Karma is a Bitch

To me these are not tales of fiction, for a young woman came to me and said a teacher raped her. I turned him in, but she refused to press charges.

A year later she committed suicide. However, he had a terrible accident on his motorcycle one day and had to retire early.

I so wanted to beat the shit out of him. I have many black belts and even trained boxers and MMA fighters to fight better. I can knock anyone out. I was a street fighter in Los Angeles and had my own fight club.

Fox spirits are not good or bad. If you are kind to them, they repay your compassion with love.

Mother’s Love and Liver Snacks for All

However, if you are abusive, they will hunt down the demons and eat their livers, such nutrition for the soul. LOL

My mother used to eat raw liver and add salt. She would smile at me and ask me if I wanted any. She loved it.

I told her no and ran as fast as I could thinking she was about to kill me and eat my liver. LOL.

These are notes from a popular class on Asian ghosts and demonology, so enjoy and eat more liver. > > > >

Notes: Hungry Ghost Lust for Justice

Fox spirits are like hungry ghosts, wanting justice or the love they were denied when alive. As one scholar Kang

As one scholar Kang Xiaofei notes in the article “Sex with Foxes” and wrote “. . . the sexual vampirism of foxes also embodied the dangerous sexuality of women who died young and unmarried. These women’s unfulfilled sexual desires were converted to sexual haunted men so that they could gain life essence and return to this world” (8).

For the fox spirit, “sex [emerges] as a battle between two partners, in which the one who brings the other to orgasm first will emerge victorious and claim the loser’s jing (life essence) as the spoils” (Huntington 86).

Thus, the female fox spirit has some affinity with the Western vampire tradition.

Fox spirits may be like ghosts, for “[t]hey represent the yin force that is associated with cold, dark, earth, the lower realm, death or femininity, and therefore are close relatives of ghosts “ (Xioafei “The Cult of the Fox” 73).

However, as Kang Xiaofei points out in “The Cult of the Fox,” “ they are not ghosts. Like ghosts, they are associated with yin, counter to the yang of humans” (75). He states, “They are living creatures who use magic to conceal their carnal bodies” (75).

Kitsune (Japanese) or Kumiho (Korean)

The folklore of the fox spirit would expand to Korea and Japan. For the most part, the lore remains the same but each culture develops its own unique narratives.
