Did You Lose Your Luggage?

Great! Say — see yah!

The Dream Mail came early: I dreamt we were at the airport with some colleagues or friends I did not know in real life. We were leaving the rental car counter and I asked if we should go this way to get our luggage, but unconcerned everyone walked in the other direction. “Don’t we need our luggage?” I thought to myself as if they could hear me. Crickets.

The airport, a place of movement and transition was the ideal place to make a significant change. I took time to decrypt the message and it occurred to me that as always, the dream metaphors for what we do not want to face surfaced.

I lost some of my luggage instantly in the dream and after much decoding said “Good riddance!”. “Good riddance to bad rubbish,” as they say.

Not the kind of luggage used for a trip to the Bahamas but the kind you should want to lose. I am talking about the past. The baggage we carry with us, things that hold us back from living. The burdens of now and the past given to us unknowingly by our ancestors, coupled with past hurts, past troubling events, past loves, and loads of regret. The icky stuff we feel we need because it makes us feels better about where we are today, but serves no purpose. Do you need a reminder, too? Let it go.

I realized it, “the stuff” kept me (keeps us) stuck. Spending so much time regretting our actions, our choices and maintaining the status quo. Doesn’t that sound wrong — regret without change. If you have a regret, you should do something, change some action or walk away to a different path. I write about this all the time, because when I dream the same themes, I know it is a message I am not getting.

Years ago, I dreamt of being a bird soaring high in the clouds above a mountain range. I felt free. If I closed my eyes right now, I could almost feel the mild cool breeze on my feathers.

Sometimes we even love the past for a time and use them appropriately to learn of what not to do in the future.

I was listening to the near-death experience of Anita Moorjani again. It was serendipitous because I had heard her speak before on another program and somehow she was again explaining “life-after-knowing” to another podcaster. She mentioned the analogy of turning on a flashlight on the possibilities of our lives, that we usually only see one instead of many. It struck a chord with me. I always see possibilities but never do anything about it.

I read the following paragraph titled “unlock the Golden Handcuffs” (Powell, 2022, pg xv) the other day in a book on entrepreneurship and ownership and, let’s just say boy did it resonate. But it resonated into everything I could see as baggage. The job, a toxic relationship with your high school sweetheart, an addiction to social media or gambling. Anything that holds one back from being amazing.

Am I chasing the golden carrot and chained to life without my knowledge? Yup! But, it is what we know.

Darkness lies ahead, but do not be afraid, your heart has a flashlight!

If you understand Carl Jung, you will understand his plea to help mankind navigate the environmental traumas of life. You must sit in the dark in order to see what light peeks through, your eyes adjust and you see the dawning of another day. There is hope in that sliver of illumination.

I have made some crazy decisions; some good, some regrettable. I have left the safety of a good job that was getting me nowhere; I moved on from tons of crummy friends, for one supportive one, and I took a direction into the unknown versus one that was unknowingly moving me backwards, to see the light — sometimes it is just time to move on, to let go, be brave and choose living over surviving. But every situation is different and we have to be ready.

Message today, bravery is not just jumping in front of a bus to save a defenseless creature, nor is it putting on a smile when inside you would rather scream but it is also to pull out your invisible sword and slay the dragons that keep you trapped in the confusing labyrinth of a tower and feel free to buy new luggage and fill it with fun clothing and things, take a trip on a new and improved mindset and feel yourself rising up towards the person you always and deep down hoped to be. It is okay to look behind you or even inside. Don’t be afraid to face the unknown.

This piece of luggage has been sitting in my drafts since a few months after starting here on Medium, but today I realize that the message was ready to be published after I posted the following NOTE to Substack.

June 15, 2026

Dear Diary,

Earlier today I posted the note below on Substack:

Hey y’all, sharing my quick note to self: I usually keep my garbage can at my office in front of me under the desk, tucked away, but as of last week, I instinctively moved it to the back of my desk in the corner of the office, which is behind my chair to the right. Today and surprisingly, I realized that instead of keeping my garbage: thoughts, my junk actions in front of me, I finally put them behind me or at least I will put them behind me on a daily basis; slowly moving them or leaving them or letting go — (all of the above I suppose). I’m feeling really good about where I am in life and this was just a little sign or nudge that I hadn’t noticed about moving forward before until today.

I had Chat help me create a meditation card as a keen reminder.

Feeling good!💚

Change does not happen all at once, it happens every day and is one step closer to live, learn and accept. Enjoy!
