JUNE 2026 HUNDO | 100 WORD CHALLENGE | MULTIPLE PROMPTS

Going Back for the Memories

One never knows how they might feel

The old homestead. Just like I remember. I grew up here long ago. It seemed creepy now, though. Arriving at dusk, without electricity, I had to light a candle to ward off the darkness. Tides of memories came flooding back.

I walked to the house through the overgrown garden, where, as a child, I received many a bruise, roughhousing with my siblings.

Opening the old creaky door, I jumped at the mounted head of a wolf on the wall. I didn’t remember that. Brushing away cobwebs and dead moths from just about everywhere, I found that the old comfy chair was still in the same place; incredibly dusty, of course.

I was here for the night, so I sat down to rest with a still chilled bottle of champagne. Unfortunately, I had neglected to bring a wine glass and spent quite a while searching for anything that might suffice.

Fortuitously, I found an old marble goblet that my mom used to use as a display piece. It would have to do.

And it did.
