I Spent 20 Years in Corporate. It Didn’t Break Me - It Built Me.

And here’s what I carried out with me.

I gave twenty years to corporate life. Truly gave - not just my time, but my energy, my leadership, my heart.

And I have zero regrets.

I grew inside those walls. I learned how to lead under pressure, how to hold a room, how to make decisions that affected real people’s real lives. I built relationships that still matter to me. I earned - financially, professionally, personally. Corporate gave me a foundation that I stand on every single day, even now.

So no, this is not a story about escaping.

This is a story about evolving.

What I Was Actually Doing All Along

Here’s the thing nobody knew - including me, for a long time.

Long before I had any certification, any coaching title, any formal “healer” label — I was already doing this work.

As a senior leader, people would find their way to my desk. Not just with project problems. With life problems. The team member who was burning out but didn’t have the words for it. The high performer who had stopped believing in themselves. The person who needed someone to actually see them — not just their output.

I showed up for all of them.

I learned this from Simon Sinek’s philosophy, which I carried with me through my entire leadership journey: the leader is not the most important person in the room. The leader is responsible for the people in the room. You are not in charge. You are in charge of them.

That distinction changed everything about how I led.

I fought for my team. I stood up for them in rooms they weren’t in. I protected their growth, their wellbeing, their dignity — because I genuinely, deeply cared about people. Not as a strategy. Not as a management technique.

As a human being.

The Shift That Changed Everything

When my corporate chapter closed, I had a moment of stillness that not many people allow themselves.

And in that stillness, I saw something clearly for the first time:

Everything I had been doing informally — the listening, the holding space, the helping people rediscover their own strength — that was the work. It had always been the work. I had just been doing it without a name for it.

So I gave it a name.

I went deeper. I trained formally as a life coach. I explored nervous system regulation, mindfulness, meditation, chakra healing, Reiki. I returned to my spiritual practices — chanting, stillness, the wisdom of teachers like B.K. Shivani — and I integrated everything: the corporate sharpness and the spiritual depth, the boardroom and the healing space.

Not as opposites. As complements.

Why This Matters for You

If you are a corporate professional reading this — driven, capable, probably exhausted — I want you to know something:

The burnout you might be feeling right now is not a character flaw. It is not ingratitude. It is not weakness.

It is information.

Your body, your mind, your spirit — they are telling you something needs to shift. Not necessarily what you do. But how you relate to it. How you relate to yourself inside of it.

That is the work I do now.

I help burned-out corporate professionals reconnect — with their bodies, with their sense of purpose, with the version of themselves that exists beyond the job title. I bring everything the corporate world taught me about people, pressure, and performance — and I combine it with the inner tools that actually create sustainable, lasting change.

Because I have sat exactly where you are sitting.

I know what it costs to give everything to a career. I also know what it feels like to finally ask: what am I giving it all for?

Gratitude Is the Foundation

I am grateful for every single year of my corporate life.

For the leadership it demanded of me. For the people it brought into my path. For the lessons it gave me — about resilience, about human nature, about what people truly need from the person standing at the front of the room.

Corporate did not break me.

It prepared me.

And now I use every bit of that preparation — every late night, every difficult conversation, every moment I chose people over politics — to do the most meaningful work of my life.

If something in this resonated, I would love to connect. I created @thebhawnaasharma on Instagram specifically for driven professionals who are ready to have this conversation — about burnout, purpose, and what sustainable success actually feels like. Come find me there.
