TWO STRANGERS: A RIVER ON THE EDGE OF A CLIFFA

River Following A Trust

Imagine two people very close to each other. Two individuals who love and trust each other unconditionally. They look as if they will love and trust each other forever, don’t they? In fact, they do. Until the end of that river connects to a cliff. Until that river flows off the cliff, it looks like something vast and endless. It appears strong, indestructible. But when the edge of the cliff appears, it means that river has now connected to another river. Trust is now connected to anger, guilt, and sadness. Well, are there rivers that never connect to a cliff? Of course, there are. The ends of some rivers connect to the ocean and immortalize themselves.

TRUST

Trust emerges when two people reach a point where they could sacrifice their lives for one another. But trust alone is not enough for an ocean. A past is also needed. Memories and lives accumulated until reaching the ocean. Perhaps both rivers came to the ocean alone. But the important thing is to be able to stay alive in the ocean, at the place where life crossed their paths. Getting there is simple; there are those who cannot complete the journey and turn back, but the hardest part is not separating in the ocean. It is a huge ocean, after all, isn’t it? One must hold the other’s hand, tie the hearts tightly, and not get lost. This is not just a story or a travel guide for two people in love. The same things apply to two siblings who love each other, two friends, or perhaps two strangers. After passing this process I call “simple” with trust, the stage is left to love, memories, and happiness.

LIKE A BROKEN VASE

Let’s say you were playing football at home secretly from your mother. Suddenly, the ball hit a vase, and everything was destroyed with a thud. Hearing the noise, your mother rushed into the room. While you were hiding the ball and trying to fix the vase, your mother caught you like that. Your sibling, on the other hand, pretended to be surprised as if nothing happened and blamed you. That’s when not only the vase broke, but also the sincerity and the feeling of trust between those two people. To make up for your mistake, you bought the exact same vase from the market with your allowance. You cleared up the mess at home and apologized to your mother many times. In the end, you compensated for your mistake. You filled the place of that broken vase. But there was one place you couldn’t fill. Your heart. Imagine that a person you’ve been with for years, someone you could entrust your life to, comes and shakes your trust. Could you trust them again? You couldn’t. Because the heart is made of a substance that cannot be glued back together even with the strongest glue. A broken piece cannot be reattached. And hearts are not sold in every market. So, when you act without thinking, there may be no compensation for it.

HEART GLUE

Words remain insufficient to describe a heartbreak. But are words enough to describe the super-strong heart glue? Yes, they are enough for that. If you truly, truly love the person whose heart you broke, you are reading this part with your “eyes 14-fold open” (with extreme attention). Heart glue is not something sold in markets. It’s certainly not a new heart. It is just closing the broken place with a kind of patch. But remember, if you also pierce through that patch, then you have gotten involved in something irreversible. A person, by nature, likes to feel valuable. No matter how much they deny it. When we humans see the efforts made for us and the lives dedicated to us, we involuntarily soften our hearts of stone. That’s why you don’t need to look for heart glue here and there. Just giving a little effort for the person you love is enough. But know this: a broken trust never flows as it used to.
