Myanmar Junta Airstrikes Injure 14 Civilians, Including Buddhist Monks, in Mrauk-U Township, Arakan

At least 14 civilians, including three Buddhist monks, were injured in two airstrikes carried out by Myanmar’s military on Kyauksae Pyin village in Mrauk-U Township, Arakan, according to local sources. Several of the wounded were reported to be in critical condition.

Residents said the first strike took place at around 10:00 a.m., when two 500-pound bombs were dropped near the village. A second attack followed at approximately 12:30 p.m., also involving two 500-pound bombs.

Community sources said those injured included three monks, two women, and nine men. Among those identified were Daw Ma Hla, 42; U Sanda, 34, a Buddhist monk; Thein Htun, 44; U Eindika, 19, a monk; Zaw Myo Oo, 18; Sanda, 13; Maung Thar Phyu, 66; Nyi Zaw Lin, 19; and Maung Than Kyaw, 63.

Several victims sustained serious injuries, including wounds to the head, face, arms, and legs, as well as hearing damage.

In addition to the civilian casualties, five cattle were killed and another was injured, residents said.

The strikes also caused significant damage to religious and civilian property. A monastery in Kyauksae Pyin village, along with several nearby buildings, was reportedly destroyed.

According to residents, the first attack hit farmland and a drainage area near the village, while the second directly struck the monastery compound, damaging its perimeter fence and main building.

Local residents said they feared further airstrikes and urgently required humanitarian assistance.

The latest attack comes amid continuing conflict in Arakan, where military operations have repeatedly affected civilian communities. Human rights groups have previously condemned strikes on populated areas and religious sites, warning that such attacks may violate international humanitarian law.
