How It Started

I interviewed with Nykaa for an SDE-2 Frontend role. The process was well-structured and focused heavily on problem-solving, frontend system design, and low-level design (LLD).

The interview consisted of four rounds, each evaluating different aspects of frontend engineering.

Round 1: DSA + Project Discussion

The first round started with a discussion around my current projects, followed by DSA questions.

Questions Asked:

• Populating Next Right Pointers in Each Node
• Intersection of Two Linked Lists

Both were standard problems but required clarity in approach and edge-case handling.

What Was Evaluated:

• Problem-solving approach
• Code clarity
• Understanding of edge cases
• Communication while coding

Round 2: LLD — Delivery System (Driver Perspective)

Problem:

Design a Delivery System UI (like Zepto / Blinkit / Nykaa) from the driver’s perspective

Key Expectations:

List functional requirements:

• Order assignment
• Status updates (picked, delivered)
• Real-time tracking UI
• ETA (Estimated Time of Arrival)

List non-functional requirements:

• Performance
• Scalability
• Reliability

Frontend Focus Areas:

• Component design for driver dashboard

Round 3: LLD — Multi-Outlet Food Ordering System

Problem:

Design a system similar to McDonald’s with multiple outlets, focusing on frontend architecture.

Key Areas Covered:

UI architecture for:

• Multiple outlets
• Menu display
• Order placement
• Payment flow

Entities and data flow:

• Orders
• Inventory (ingredients)
• Payments

Advanced Discussions:

• Handling concurrent orders and reflecting real-time stock changes in the UI
• Ensuring consistency in UI when stock updates dynamically
• Designing scalable frontend architecture

Follow-up Topics:

API design for fetching:

How frontend handles:

Round 4: Managerial Round

This round focused on both technical depth and behavioral aspects.

Topics Covered:

• Deep dive into current projects
• Challenges faced and solutions implemented
• How I would improve the existing system design

JavaScript / Frontend Concepts:

• Singleton pattern (applied in frontend services/utilities)
• How to make it thread-safe (conceptual discussion in JS context)
• static keyword and its usage

What Was Evaluated:

• Problem-solving mindset
• Ownership and decision-making
• Depth of frontend knowledge
• Communication and clarity

Verdict:

Positive (with minor gaps during code explanation)

Final Outcome

I successfully cleared all rounds and received an offer with approximately 75% hike over my current base salary.
