Vietnam’s Power Crisis Is Creating a Hidden Opportunity in Factory Energy Monitoring (2026)

Why manufacturers can no longer treat electricity as a month-end number — and what equipment suppliers should know

Vietnam’s electricity pressure is no longer a government problem. It’s a factory floor problem.

National peak demand reached 57,120 MW by May 25, 2026 — a 13.5% jump year-on-year. Daily consumption hit 1.171 billion kWh. Northern Vietnam is even tighter, with peak demand up 15.8%.

And it’s about to get worse. Forecasters warn a super El Niño from July could bring longer heatwaves, drought, and falling reservoir levels.

The real shift isn’t rising costs. It’s that electricity data now needs to be available daily, not monthly.

What this means for factories

When customer audits start requiring energy management records, a single electricity bill won’t be enough. Factories will need granular data:

  • Which production lines consume the most power
  • Which time slots can be adjusted for peak load
  • Which equipment needs capital investment to improve efficiency

A factory that can’t produce per-line consumption data in a day will be scrambling.

Where the opportunity sits

The instinct is to think solar. But the immediate, low-capital opportunity is in monitoring and energy data infrastructure — real-time meters, IoT sensors, and energy management software (EMS).

These don’t require the massive capital outlay of rooftop solar. Factory owners can approve them quickly because the pain is immediate: customer audits are coming.
