Guidelines: Write for The Quiet Courage Project

The Quiet Courage Project is a publication dedicated to LGBTQIA+ voices and the quiet strength it takes to live authentically in a complicated world.
We focus on the courage that often goes unnoticed. Not the loud victories that make headlines, but the private strength it takes to survive, endure, heal, and keep going.
Whether you are a seasoned writer or sharing your first story, we believe the quiet courage of our community deserves to be heard.
What We Publish
We welcome writing that reflects the lived experiences of LGBTQIA+ people, including:
• personal essays • memoir fragments • poetry • reflections on queer history • interviews with elders in the community • stories of survival and healing • accounts of joy, grief, resistance, and everyday life
Stories may explore themes such as:
• surviving family rejection • chosen family • quiet acts of authenticity • coming out later in life • grief and love • resilience through discrimination • small moments of joy
We also welcome translated stories from non-English speakers so that voices from around the world can be heard.
Our Sections
Our publication currently features several recurring sections:
Quiet Courage Personal survival stories and reflections.
Chosen Family Stories about friendship, love, and queer community.
Our History Researched pieces about LGBTQ history and legacy.
The Archive Interviews with elders and trailblazers in the community.
Poetry & Reflection Creative work including poetry and short reflective pieces.
Authentic Voice
We welcome authentic writing grounded in lived experience.
AI tools may be used for editing, brainstorming, or language assistance. However, submissions must be rooted in genuine human experience and authorship. Fully AI-generated stories without personal insight or emotional authenticity will not be accepted.
Writers and Rights
Writers retain full rights to their work and receive all earnings generated through Medium’s Partner Program.
A Welcoming Space for New Writers
The Quiet Courage Project welcomes LGBTQIA+ writers from anywhere in the world, including those who have never published before.
Perfect grammar or polished English is not required. What matters most is honesty, lived experience, and the courage to share your story.
If a piece needs shaping, we may offer suggestions and invite the writer to revise. Our goal is to help voices be heard, not to silence them.
A Growing Publication
We are currently a new publication and welcome writers and future collaborators who believe in preserving LGBTQIA+ stories from around the world.
Editors shape the integrity of a publication. We value people who respect the mission, understand LGBTQ history and experience, treat writers kindly, and help maintain quality.
