What is FUTURE YOU Lab?

FUTURE YOU Lab is a small, multi-generational dialogue space where people come together to listen to real life stories of elders — and reflect on their own future.

In each session, one person who has lived a little further ahead shares their life story. Not as a lecture, not as advice — but as it really was: full of uncertainty, conflict, and decisions.

Participants from different generations sit together — often over a meal — and engage in honest dialogue.

This is not a place to find answers. It is a space to leave with better questions.

Because FUTURE YOU Lab is not something you fully understand by explanation.

It is something you feel through stories.

Why this matters now

We live in a world that is more connected than ever.

And yet, many people feel increasingly isolated.

In Japan, over 40% of people report feeling lonely at times, and this is not limited to older generations.(Cabinet Office, Government of Japan, 2023 survey on loneliness and social isolation) People in all generations from 20s, 30s, 40s, 50s, 60s, 70s, and 80s are also struggling to find meaningful connection and direction.

At the same time, we are becoming more divided by generation.

Algorithms, workplaces, and social environments tend to surround us with people who are similar to us — in age, background, and way of thinking.

As a result, we lose opportunities to encounter different life paths.

• Younger and mid-career generations struggle to find real role models
• Older generations often become isolated, with fewer places to share their experience

These two realities are deeply connected. And yet, they rarely meet.

Who you will meet in FUTURE YOU

FUTURE YOU brings together a diverse group of senior mentors — with over 20 individuals, with an average age of 65, coming from a wide range of professional and life backgrounds.

They are not “perfect role models,” but real people who have navigated careers, transitions, conflicts, and reinvention.

Their stories are not polished success narratives. They are lived experiences — shared openly, as they are.

What we are building

FUTURE YOU Lab is an experiment to reconnect generations through lived experience.

Our vision is to create a space where:

• People of different ages, cultures, and backgrounds can sit at the same table
• Life experience becomes a shared social resource
• And growing older becomes something to look forward to — not fear

In a rapidly aging society like Japan, this is not just a social issue.

It is an opportunity to redesign how we learn from each other.
