Register.com Suffers DNS Outage

Register.com has announced a DNS outage today, October 19, 2020 at 3:38 PM EST, which has affected their DNS customer service base. The outage is still ongoing, and the issue has not been identified or resolved.

Register.com released the following statement on its Twitter page today:

*“We are aware of the DNS issues that are occurring and our engineers are working diligently to resolve this matter as quickly as possible. We will provide updates as they are made available to us. We thank you for your feedback and patience during this time.”*

In the recent past, companies of all sizes have been ravaged by outages from major brands:

  • Amazon Web Services’ DNS systems fell victim to a cyber-attack on October 22, 2019 that was reported to have left the systems overwhelmed for over ten hours.
  • IBM Cloud suffered a major outage on June 9, 2020 that affected multiple services hosted on the platform worldwide.
  • Cloudflare DNS users also experienced an outage on July 17, 2020 that left websites and services unreachable to online visitors.

These outages are unexpected and unacceptable to customers who put their trust in their DNS providers. These issues hinder productivity, efficiency, and can have major impacts on revenue.

While customers of top retailers are at risk of being severely impacted by outages, DNS Made Easy and Constellix invest in the importance of business stability. With the recent expansion of DNS service to South Africa, we have extended our reach to provide the highest quality traffic management solution to a new region and continue our commitment of providing services that ensure all domains and applications remain accessible in the event of an outage. South Africa is one more region of the world where DNS Made Easy and Constellix are now #1 in speeds, redundancy, features, and price.

Constellix was built from the same network that powers DNS Made Easy, which has the highest uptime in DNS history since 2001 with 100% uptime.
