Dogwood Cabin: Something Walked Up the Stairs

An uneasy feeling, an empty staircase, and a shadow that shouldn't have been there.

By this time I’m an adult living and working at a cabin resort called Sierra Shangri La in Northern, California. My mom lived in the main house with her boyfriend. My brother and his girlfriend were staying in Dogwood, which is the name of a cabin. It felt like it had a million stairs leading up to it.

One night around 2 or 3 a.m. — I guess technically early morning — my mom woke up with an uneasy feeling and an upset stomach. Not sick exactly…just one of those weird feelings where something feels off for no reason. She looked outside and saw what she described as a dark shadow figure walking towards Dogwood. It was near the steps close to the front door. Immediately she contacted my brother, and asked if he or his girlfriend had been outside. They hadn’t.

My brother then told my mom something that made it creepier. Before my mom had even messaged him, he had already been awake feeling uneasy and sick to his stomach too. Pretty freaky. After that, I kind of accepted that Dogwood might actually be haunted. Later, after my brother and his girlfriend moved back to Louisiana, I went up there myself because obviously I had to investitagate. I brought my cat with me because animals always seem to notice things before people do.

The whole time my cat kept staring into random areas and reacting to things I couldn’t see. Ears moving, looking around, acting alert for no obvious reason. I also recorded audio on my phone while I was up there. Later I listened back, I swear I could hear weird faint voices in parts of the recording that gave me goosebumps. However, I did always have an off feeling about the couch that was up there… we all did.

There was this old couch inside the cabin that always gave all of us weird vibes. It had these big dark stains on it that looked almost like old blood. It looked like it had been scrubbed or washed out years ago. Maybe it was nothing, but the couch always felt off to me. Like it had some kind of story behind it nobody talked about.

Could’ve been nothing, but still can’t figure out what the shadow was. Or the uneasy feeling they had that night. But standing there alone after hearing what happened with my mom and brother… it definitely didn’t feel like nothing.
