When people think about weddings, they often think about the big moments right? That first look, the ceremony or the first dance.

As a wedding planner, I have had the privilege of witnessing hundreds of these moments over the years. They are beautiful, emotional, and unforgettable. But if there is one thing this industry has taught me, it is that the moments couples remember most are often the ones that were never part of the timeline.

Those small quiet moments that are unexpected or unscripted. The in between moments of your wedding day or days.

It might be a groom sharing a private laugh with his grandmother while getting ready. A father taking a deep breath before walking his daughter down the aisle. A bride wiping away her tears during an event when she thought nobody was looking.

Sometimes it is a sibling fixing a piece of jewellery moments before the ceremony begins. Perhaps it’s a couple stealing thirty seconds alone together after months, or even years, of planning.

These moments are easy to miss if you are focused solely on perfection.

They do not come with an announcement, and they aren’t captured in your timeline. These are the memories that will stay with you long after the music has stopped.

As wedding planners, we spend so much time helping couples create incredible celebrations. We coordinate timelines, manage logistics, and ensure every detail comes together seamlessly. But over the years, I have realised that our real role is not just to create beautiful events, but space.

If I’m being brutally honest about it, Indian or South Asian weddings are often considered “chaotic.” I can see you nodding your head in agreement right now..

I know for a fact that “wedding burnout” exists in the Indian and South Asian wedding industry, because so many couples and their families are wrapped up in the “perfection” of it that they leave no space to enjoy those special moments to be fully present on the day.

Perhaps it is just 15 minutes to enjoy the food at your wedding reception or sitting down with Mum or Dad to share a story from the day’s festivities or even having a dance with your cousin who travelled from overseas to attend your wedding. Years ago, I recall seeing one of my bride’s sitting at the reception to eat her wedding cake! Groom was having a spectacular time on the dancefloor with friends and family, but there she was at the wedding table savouring that moment.

Having space to be fully present on the wedding day is the most magical thing.

The older I get, the more I realise that weddings are not really about perfection. They’re about those small in between moments that you’ll never get back again. The ones that remind us why we gathered to celebrate in the first place.

I’d love to know from you — what is a small moment from a wedding or celebration that has stayed with you?
