Now that we have entered the final month of the year 2024. We have also started a new chapter. This is an opportunity to continue on the momentum of the previous month and end this year on a bang.

There are so many resolutions that have not been completed up until this point. However, I have learnt from an earlier age that I don’t have to put myself under adverse pressure. I can move the goalposts to suit my needs.

Learn how to re-strategise

Even big companies push back projects for a later date in order to re-strategise and ensure that they put things right to achieve their objectives.

Sometimes it is necessary to understand that this life we are living is not a sprint. We don’t have to put ourselves under adverse pressure. We can take a step back and re-strategise before we move forward.

For me, this month of December is my chapter 12 of 2024. I have not accomplished everything that I set out to accomplish this year. However, I am proud to say that I have achieved a lot.

Providing support to your network

I have made significant strides in areas of my life that need improving. Plus, I have taken time out to support and empower my network with shared knowledge and proper guidance.

This was achieved through signposting to the relevant support service and personal information for personal development. Understanding that each individual is unique and one cap doesn’t fit all is paramount in achieving this goal.

Life’s journey can sometimes become difficult and overwhelming. We all need a little help along the way. Knowing how to communicate and share vital information with my network can help them to understand and make informed decisions.

I have come to realise that people in my network are more comfortable seeking help from within before considering seeking support from any external sources.

Even if I am not an expert in a particular area. I can signpost them to the relevant external sources that can provide the support and help that are necessary.

Finding employment

Recently, someone in my network approached me because they were experiencing financial difficulties. We identified that sticking to a budget and getting a better-paying job would be the catalyst for getting out of his financial woes.

I have managed to help secure a better-paying job. Plus, with a proper budget in place to help monitor spending. This person is now moving forward with confidence with the whole weight of his financial woes off his shoulders.

The non-English-speaking refugee

Recently, I was at the metro station for my daily commute. A non-English-speaking man approached me. He had just received an email but wasn’t too sure of its content.

However, from reading the email, I found out that the man was a refugee and his visa was due for renewal soon in order to maintain his refugee status in the country.

I also found out that the man was living in our local area and was attending the local college. Where he was learning English as a second language.

Obviously, I didn’t speak this person’s language because English is my native language. However, I had to improvise by using Google Translate.

This person was visibly concerned, and the language barrier didn’t help much. I explained as best as I could using Google Translate and then signposted him to the local Citizens Advice Bureau.

The Citizens Advice Bureau will be better able to support him because they will have more resources, such as interpreters and access to local partners that can support this particular individual.

Sending Remittances

Some of my readers might understand this concept of sending remittances. I am originally from the Caribbean, but I have been living in the United Kingdom for a considerable amount of years after completing my studies.

When I tell some of my colleagues that I have to send remittances back home. They’re very confused because they don’t understand why I have to do so.

Part of having a good supportive network is to ensure that all aspects of the network are functional. So, making financial contributions through remittances is vital for the continuity, stability, and growth of the network.

My family and friends mean a lot to me, and as I grow, they also grow.

People are hurting and suffering in silence.

One thing that I have become more aware of is that people are hurting. A lot of them are even suffering in silence because they don’t know how to go about getting the information that they need.

At a time when the access to information is so high. There are people who are overwhelmed by it because they don’t really know how to access the information that is specific to their needs.

We all know that accessing misinformation can lead to detrimental consequences.

Most things are going digital. Almost everything, including utility bills, is now online.

Next-door neighbour

My next-door neighbours are an elderly couple who want to maintain their independence and live in their own homes. However, they’re no longer receiving their bills through the post.

They get everything online, but this was only possible by taking time out to share basic computer knowledge of setting up an email and using biometric identification for smooth access.

We can’t leave our elders behind in this technological era. They are part of it, and whilst things are going at lightning speed, it’s all new to them. They are also willing to learn, but it takes a lot of practice and patience.

Final note

I am not operating a charitable organisation, but I love to do charitable activities that will make a positive impact on other people’s lives.

Today is a new day, a new month, and a fresh page in my chapter 12 of December 2024. Another opportunity for me to impact the lives of those I come in contact with in a positive way. I am loving every moment of it.

What about you? Are you making an impact?
