Holiday Spirits: Infused Vodka
Sharing Christmas Cheer
As we approach the holiday season, many of us are thinking about what we will gift this year (if you’re already done, bah-humbug!). I usually give edible gifts to friends and family because food is a love language.
In the past, I’ve made Christmas cookies, flavored popcorn, charcuterie boards, and even mini Christmas pies. But as the kids have gotten older (some are even having their own babies!!!), I thought I’d try something more adult-oriented. After careful thought (and a sale at the local distillery), I decided on Vodka Infusions.
What Are Vodka Infusions?
Vodka infusions are like flavor experiments in a bottle! By mixing vodka with fruit, spices, herbs, or even veggies, a whole new taste is created. Just let the ingredients hang out with the vodka, and voilà — unique flavors. These infusions are perfect for giving classic vodka cocktails a flavorful twist and are sure to add some Christmas cheer.
Because variety is the spice of life, I’ve included 3 variations…
What You’ll Need
❤ 2 Mason or Pint jars (500ml) with lids ❤ Strainer or colander, cheesecloth, or coffee filter
INGREDIENTS
Spicy Chili Pepper Infused Vodka (for spice lovers) ❤ 3 organic red peppers, cut into quarters ❤ 1–2 Tbsp raw honey ❤ 750 mL vodka
Cranberry Spice Infused Vodka (for holiday flavor) ❤ 2 cups cranberries, rinsed, drained, and dried ❤ ¼ cup sugar (optional, but it adds sweetness for those who like their spirits neat) ❤ 3 star anise ❤ 3 cinnamon sticks ❤ Orange peel or lemon peel ❤ 750 mL vodka
Cranberry Rosemary-Infused Vodka (for a savory twist) ❤ 2 cups cranberries, rinsed, drained, and dried ❤ 5 rosemary sprigs ❤ 750 mL vodka
INSTRUCTIONS
For each version: ❤ Split the suggested ingredients in half and place equal amounts in the two jars. I recommend muddling the fruits and herbs to release the full flavor. ❤ Fill jars with vodka. ❤ Seal the jars and store them in a cool, dark place (but not the fridge!). ❤ Shake every day! After 3–5 days, your infusions are technically complete, but they’ll taste so much better after 3–5 weeks.
When your infusion has reached your desired flavor potency: ❤ Strain the ingredients through a cheesecloth, mesh strainer, or coffee filter. ❤ Transfer the infused vodka into a clean mason jar or bottle for gifting.
I make labels for a personal touch, but the great thing about reusing bottles/jars is that you can write directly on the glass with a permanent marker. No fuss.

How to Serve Infused Vodka
Infused vodka is perfect for any occasion. Besides drinking it straight from the bottle, you can:
Mix with soda: Pour a shot (or two!) of infused vodka into soda water or tonic for a crisp, refreshing drink. Martini mixup: Stir up some infused vodka with a splash of vermouth, and serve in a chilled martini glass for a classy, easy cocktail. Crafty cocktails: Use it as the base for classic drinks like cosmos, screwdrivers, or Caesars. Cook with it: Yes! Add some flavor to pasta sauces, cakes, and desserts for a flavorful twist.
The combinations are endless, and there are plenty of pairings to explore. Try vanilla bean, or add some strawberries with the peppers. Berries always go well. And if you want something tropical, pineapple and coconut are a must.
No matter what you choose, infused vodka is perfect to get creative with.
So Spread some holiday cheer!
And have a Merry Christmas.
