Imagine you’re walking in the rain with both hands busy. One hand has your coffee, the other has your phone.

Then… your umbrella starts flying above your head all by itself!

Sounds like a movie, right? Well, it’s real!

Meet the Flying Umbrella

A Canadian engineer named **John Tse** has built a special umbrella that doesn’t need you to hold it.

It flies above your head and follows you wherever you go. Yes, your umbrella has officially become your tiny flying bodyguard!

So, How Does It Know Where You Are?

The umbrella is actually a smart drone in disguise. It has four propellers hidden inside and uses a depth camera to find your position.

A small Raspberry Pi computer quickly processes the information and keeps the umbrella floating above your head as you walk. Pretty clever, isn’t it?

Building It Wasn’t Easy

John didn’t simply attach a drone to an umbrella and call it a day. He first built a smaller test version.

Then he designed folding arms, 3D-printed many of the parts, and used strong carbon-fibre nylon to keep everything light and stable. That’s a lot of hard work for staying dry!

The Funny Side

Now imagine this…

What if two flying umbrellas met in the sky? Would they say, “Excuse me, coming through!”?

Or what if your umbrella followed the wrong person? Awkward!

And here’s another thought… if this becomes common, people might start saying, “Sorry, I can’t come out today. My umbrella needs charging!” 😂

The Future Is Looking Up!

This flying umbrella is still a prototype, but it gives us a fun look at how everyday things could become smarter.

Today it’s an umbrella. Tomorrow… who knows? Maybe flying backpacks or self-following shopping bags!

One thing is certain — technology never stops surprising us, and sometimes it even makes us smile while keeping us dry.
