All Needs and Enjoyments Manifest Exactly as Desired (A Dharma Talk on the Pure Land by Venerable Master Da’an)

Namo Amitabha Buddha

“Wishing for clothing, clothing arrives; wishing for food, food arrives. All enjoyments manifest exactly as desired. And all daily necessities are miraculously manifested. They are not like in this world, where they are made through human labor.”

— Great Master Yin Guang (13th Patriarch of the Pure Land School)

Is the Pure Land just a myth, or does it align with quantum physics? Let’s explore how Einstein’s E=mc² perfectly explains the profound Buddhist truth of Mind-Created Reality.

In the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss, the necessities of life are utterly effortless and free. Everything transforms according to the mind. The moment a thought arises desiring clothing, the garments naturally drape upon your body.

There is no need to plant cotton, weave, dye, or tailor fabrics — none of this is necessary. Moreover, whatever style, color, trendy design, or material you desire, it instantly appears exactly as you wish. Sometimes, when we read this, it sounds like mythology, but these are absolute truths. “Wishing for clothing, clothing arrives; wishing for food, food arrives.”

When the thought of eating arises, bowls made of the seven precious treasures naturally appear before you, spontaneously filled with food of a hundred exquisite flavors. Along with the food, a table and seating made of the seven treasures also manifest.

When the thought arises that you are full and no longer need them, they naturally disappear. Therefore, all daily necessities and enjoyments follow one’s desires completely, perfectly matching the wishes of the reborn beings.

Everything is miraculously and naturally manifested, unlike in our world, where human beings must work, farm, and labor to produce them. This point is a crucial determining factor between good and evil. Why is there so much evil and so little good in our world?

It is because all our resources and necessities must be obtained through strenuous labor. Since they require hard labor, it means they are scarce. Scarcity leads to competition, struggles, and wars over these resources. In the process of fighting for resources, people scheme, resort to extreme measures, and create all kinds of evil karma.

In the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss, as well as in other supreme Buddha-lands, manual labor is not required. Resources naturally manifest at the arising of a thought. Without the need to compete for or plunder survival resources, beings naturally do not create any evil karma. In truth, every sentient being possesses this inherent capacity for things to “arrive upon a thought.”

However, because our afflictions (Kleshas) and delusions are too heavy, this function cannot manifest in us. The blessing “may all your wishes come true” is theoretically absolute, but our afflicted minds cannot actually materialize it.

You might deeply desire to eat an apple, and you think about it, but the apple does not magically appear. Yet, when you go to the Pure Land, the moment the thought of eating an apple arises, the apple instantly appears before you. Why is this? It actually aligns perfectly with a scientific principle — the transformation between mass and energy.

Mass is a phenomenal entity that can be converted into immense energy. Albert Einstein’s mass-energy equivalence formula, E=mc², discusses exactly this.

For example, a tiny atom undergoing fission can release colossal energy; this is the principle behind nuclear energy. Mass and energy are mutually convertible. Mass can be converted into energy, and energy can also be converted into mass. What is energy?

A single thought of ours is a form of energy!** This mental energy can be converted into mass — into a physical object. However, our current mental energy is far too scattered. A scattered mind cannot concentrate to the critical point required to materialize an object. In principle, it is entirely possible to manifest things with the mind, but we currently lack the concentrated power to do so.

In the Western Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss, the mental energy of the beings is profoundly concentrated (dwelling in perfect Samadhi). The moment the energy of a thought arises, physical mass instantly manifests. This perfectly aligns with the theory of Einstein’s mass-energy equivalence formula.

This is not mythology; it is the ultimate reality of the universe.

(Editor’s Note: Amitabha Buddha, through his infinite merit and vows, created the Pure Land — a realm free from scarcity and suffering. By simply reciting “Namo Amitabha Buddha,” we align our scattered minds with his boundless energy, ensuring our rebirth in this ultimate realm of freedom and peace.)
