The James Bond franchise has been going on for more than 50 years now, many actors have played the role of the classy, smooth and skilled MI6 agent James Bond with a license to kill but Daniel Craig truly reinvented the character for modern audiences.
In essence the Daniel Craig bond movies portray bond as not as a super spy but a very flawed and emotionally damaged human being.
One of the most significant changes Daniel Craig brought to the role was vulnerability. This bond is not invincible, he gets hurt, he fails and he struggles emotionally. This humanization makes the character far more relatable and engaging.
The origin story they gave Bond in Casino Royale was peak. It shows an inexperienced and determined bond taking charge as 007 by terminating the old 007 who was double crossing MI6 and at the end when Vesper dies bond fully transforms into the cold, charming, dangerous 007 who trusts no one.
In the Daniel Craig movies Bond goes through his own emotional rollercoaster. In Casino Royale Vesper the one Bond truly loved and was ready to leave everything behind betrayed him and let herself die due to guilt. This transformed Bond into the stone cold killer he is.
In Spectre he refuses to kill Blofeld and turned away once again to be with Madeline the daughter of Mr. White, but in No Time To Die Blofeld tricks Bond into thinking that Madeline just like Vesper had betrayed him, which leads them being estranged for five years.
But we later came to know that she was with child when they had become estranged and in the end unable to ever be near his loved ones due to the virus he had been injected with, Bond sacrifices himself to destroy the lab witch manufactured the said virus.
The Daniel Craig movies are a connected story unlike the other iterations which were stand alone stories with little to no continuity.
In spectre it is revealed that all the antagonists of the previous films were all part of a worldwide criminal organization controlled by Ernst Stavro Blofeld Bond’s half brother, who wanted bond to suffer and be truly alone in the world.
Blofeld confesses that he orchestrated everything from the beginning and as a final blow from prison he managed to trick James into leaving Madeline.
The Daniel Craig era made Bond’s story arc come full circle in a total five movies from him being designated as 007 and to him dying to save the world and his daughter a tragic yet beautiful death.
