Frankenstein Job posts
Lately I started to look for new opportunities, and what I see most of the job requirements are unrealistic.
Here’s one of them from — https://www.linkedin.com/company/trebeconllc/ JD — .NET Application Developer / Production Support Engineer :: Need Only Locals Hybrid-MA :: W2 Position
Skill/Expectations
C#, .NET Framework, .NET Core, .NET 6+, ASP.NET, REST APIs, SOAP services, SQL Server, database design, query optimization, Tableau, Crystal Reports, SSRS, Power BI, Git, GitHub, Azure DevOps, AWS, Azure, CI/CD, PowerShell, Python, application troubleshooting, root cause analysis (RCA), production support, mission-critical support, 24x7 on-call support, after-hours support, incident management, problem management, ITSM, ServiceNow, Jira, monitoring, logging, batch jobs, application deployment, release management, environment configuration, middleware, system integration, SDLC, Agile, documentation, runbooks, change management, stakeholder management, flexible scheduling
This skillset is not common for a single person to possess at a senior level. It represents a combination of four distinct roles rolled into one job description. Backend Developer, BI Engineer, Cloud Engineer and SysAdmin.
While a highly experienced engineer might have touched all of these technologies, expecting high proficiency in all of them is an unrealistic expectation.
There are only two scenarios where this list makes sense:
- The “Jack of All Trades” Solo Role: A lone engineer at a small company or a legacy enterprise department who has maintained an old system for a decade.
- A “Keywords Soup” Job Posting: A hiring manager listing every single technology used across the entire department, rather than what the person will actually do daily.
If a person actually master all of these technologies, and then plugs in AI to automate the tedious parts, they essentially become a corporate Terminator or Rambo capable of running an entire department by themselves.
Ha, still I see a bottle necks — can’t automate human and meetings, or sql queries for backend fixes, can’t fix the burnout and unrealistic support hours. You still have to argue with stakeholders, wait for change management approvals in ServiceNow, and sit in Agile meetings
If you are looking at a job description like this, you hold all the leverage. You shouldn’t just look for a standard salary; you should expect to be compensated as the IT department.
This is an excellent example of a healthy, mature job description. It is a “real” job worth chasing for.
The Senior Software Engineer position at Grand Circle Corporation features a focused scope centered on a modern Azure-based tech stack, utilizing C#/.NET and React/Angular, which reduces burnout risks compared to broader, legacy-focused roles. The role emphasizes engineering, API development, and CI/CD, while offering a targeted mission within the Traveler Relations Center.
