My next purchase: Mastin Labs Lightroom presets.

This will be a short post. I just want to share with you some presets that I’ve saving up for.

I’ve never really had the urge to buy presets for Lightroom because I was pretty good at emulating certain looks and I never really saw any that grabbed my eye.

Enter Mastin Labs. Kirk Mastin is the guy in charge at Mastin Labs and he loves doing “hybrid photography”. This is the idea of using both a film camera and a digital camera for your photography. I still use my film Nikkormat occasionally, but the cost of developing film isn’t quite worth it to me right now. That’s why I want a really good set of presets to use to get that film look. Not a filtered look, but an actual film look.

Mastin Labs has some amazing presets that look insanely authentic to actual film. In fact, they’ve placed film photos next to their preset photos and they look identical.

I was set on getting the Portra Pushed preset pack until they recently just released a Fujicolor Pushed pack. “Pushing” refers to how a set of film is developed. It uses different lighting conditions and usually gives the photos a bit more grain and contrast which I love.

Fuji always has amazing color reproduction and they seem to have nailed it in these new presets. Take a look at the Portra Pushed photos from Instagram when searching for the tag #portrapushed.

I love the moody contrast of those photos.

So I’m not sure which one I’m going to get first once I get the money saved. I was set on Portra Pushed until they released the Fujicolor Pushed. I don’t know. I’ll have to see. I’ll make a post here once I’m able to grab one and start editing some photos with them. Thanks for reading!
