I’m Grateful, I’m Sorry, and Thank You

There was a time when I thought we’d make it. A time when our plans felt real, our promises felt permanent, and loving each other felt enough to survive anything.

But life has a way of teaching us that sometimes, love isn’t always meant to stay.

Looking back, I choose not to remember us through the pain of our ending. Instead, I choose gratitude.

I’m grateful for you.

Grateful for the years we spent growing together. For the random conversations, the inside jokes, and the moments that made ordinary days feel special.

Thank you for being part of a chapter of my life that I once called home. Hindi ko malilimutan ang mga araw na iyon. Ikaw ang una ko sa maraming bagay, at masaya ako na ikaw ang kasama ko sa mga karanasang iyon.

And I’m sorry.

Sorry for the times I failed to understand you. Sorry for the words I should have said and the words I should have kept to myself. Sorry for the moments when my own fears, insecurities, and shortcomings got in the way of loving you the way you deserved.

Sorry dahil naglihim ako sa’yo tungkol sa nakaraan ko, sa mga trauma ko, at sa mga bagay na hindi ko kayang sabihin noon. You didn’t deserve the kind of love I gave you at times because you deserved so much more. Kamahal-mahal ka, at mas higit pa ang nararapat para sa’yo.

If I could change those things, maybe I would.

But life doesn’t move backward.

So instead of holding on to regrets, I choose acceptance.

And thank you.

Thank you for the love you gave me, even when it wasn’t easy. Thank you for the lessons that stayed long after we parted ways. Thank you for helping me become the person I am today.

At higit sa lahat, thank you dahil hinayaan mo akong makita muli ang mundo sa pagkakataong ito nang ako lang. Tama ka — malawak nga ang mundo. Tama ka rin, I can do more, and I can be more, para sa pamilya ko at higit sa lahat, para sa sarili ko.

You taught me that love can be beautiful even when it doesn’t last forever.

Some people enter our lives to stay. Others arrive to teach us something before they leave.

Maybe we were the second kind.

And that’s okay.

Because not every love story is meant to have a happy ending. Some are meant to leave us with memories, lessons, and a softer understanding of what it means to love someone deeply.

Wherever life takes you now, I hope you’re happy.

I hope you’re healing.

I hope you’re becoming the person you’ve always wanted to be.

As for me, I’m learning to carry our memories without carrying the pain.

So this is not a goodbye filled with bitterness.

It’s a goodbye filled with gratitude.

I’m grateful.

I’m sorry.

And thank you.
