Hasselt’s Winterland Christmas Fair has returned with more magic than ever before. This festive event, running until early January, counts a multitude of attractions and pop-up stands filled with food and desserts. It’s the perfect place to breathe in the joyful season alongside friends and family.

From the moment you pass through the grand entrance, it feels like stepping into a Christmas storybook. The square is filled with a lively atmosphere created by the chalets and their decorations, like the holiday music and colourful lights.

Paths wind through the fair like a maze, guiding visitors to discover hidden gems along the way. Every corner offers something special, from cozy spots, to grab a warm drink, to lively spaces with shops and entertainment for all ages.

At the heart of the event are traditional Belgian delicacies. Stalls full of waffles, speculoos, and steaming cups of hot chocolate invite you to pause and taste the flavors of the holiday. It’s a sensory experience that combines the warmth of the season with the authenticity of local craftsmanship.

But this fair isn’t just about food — visitors can also enjoy attractions like the ice skating rink, an eternal favourite where everyone can skate surrounded by festive lights. It is located in the middle of a café, where people gather to chat, relax, and enjoy their drinks.

The crowd at Winterland is a mix of locals and visitors from across Belgium and neighboring countries, all drawn to the vibrant atmosphere. It has become a cherished annual tradition, fostering a sense of community and togetherness that resonates with everyone who attends. Jeroen, a visitor from Leuven waiting for her children to get off the rollercoaster, said:

“It’s the perfect opportunity to enjoy the season with my children and help them feel the holiday ambience. There’s nothing quite like it.”

As the evening unfolds and the illumination manifests itself more clearly, the space becomes even more enchanting. A Christmas tree draped in sparkling lights and shimmering ornaments becomes the centerpiece of countless joyful photos.

When talking to locals, we confirmed that they also feel the holiday spirit while there. A student named Lukas shared:

“It feels like the holidays should — full of life and joy. I think that’s why so many people come back every year. It’s not just about the rides or the food; it’s the atmosphere.”
