Trump Retreats from Minnesota Because of Bad ‘Optics’ and Crashing Poll Numbers — Not Because He Has a Heart

In phone calls to both Minnesota Governor Tim Walz and Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey, and with a hard eye on his cratering poll numbers, Donald Trump forced himself to act like a concerned, and dare I say it…. reasonable human being. His ever-increasing unpopularity and tanking ratings… er… polls forced him to put aside his usual bluster, bullying, wild accusations, threats, and bald-faced lies against Frey and Walz. Trump went so far as to even praise what he termed “productive” phone calls with the two officials on the immigration crackdown in Minnesota.

Even more surprising, but by Trump’s lights a necessary move, he sent his controversial immigration “Commander-at-Large” Gregory Bovino packing and back to his home turf, El Centro California, where he is expected to finally retire as “Sector Chief.”

Bovino will be replaced by an equally flawed, equally corrupt, but wholly inarticulate Trumper, Tom Homan, Trump’s so-called “border czar.” Homan is now tasked with overall immigration enforcement efforts in Minnesota. In keeping with Trump’s penchant for hiring only the “best” people, this man has been accused of accepting a $50,000 cash bribe in a fast-food bag from undercover FBI agents in 2023 in exchange for favors in a potential Trump regime. That “transaction” was also supposedly surreptitiously videotaped. There is, however, no word as to whether the fast-food bag was from McDonald’s, Burger King, Wendy’s, or, my seven-year-old niece’s favorite, a Chucky Cheese bag.

Mayor Frey said that during his call with Trump, our so-called “President” declared that “lots of progress is being made.” Frey also asked Trump directly to end the “surge” in Minneapolis and Trump agreed that the present situation cannot continue.

Some agents will depart almost immediately, said Frey, and he would keep the pressure on Trump to rid his city of all masked and secret “police,” thereby ending “Operation Metro Surge.”

Nazi-Curious or Just Nazi?

Bovino has been a lightning rod for the Trump regime’s violent enforcement tactics in blue cities nationwide. His departure marks a not-so-subtle sea change in federal law enforcement posture brought on by ever-increasing outrage and exponentially larger and more vocal public displays by the mostly white citizens of Minneapolis. Again, their ire was finally brought to a boiling point over the fatal shooting of 37-year-old ICU nurse Alex Pretti by Border Patrol agents –again, the second fatal shooting by federal immigration officers this month.

As the tip of the secret police spear in deliberately visible federal crackdowns nationwide, including horrific acts and operations that incited mass demonstrations and near-riots in Los Angeles, Chicago, Charlotte, and Minneapolis, Bovino’s mere presence came to symbolize and actualize the heartlessness and sadism that formed the basis of the Trump regime.

His “leadership” of the obviously ill-trained, racist, and violent “troops” in Minnesota, however, brought too much attention — the wrong type of attention –to Trump and his regime’s constant lies about their deadly behavior. Unlike the brutality and harassment, even killings, in other cities, the videotaped double murders of two obviously innocent white people in mostly white Minneapolis struck a nerve and finally opened the eyes of white Americans across the country. Many of them saw for the first time in their lives exactly what kind of country they were living in.

And so, it was Bovino’s outright lies in the last few days as he publicly defended the Pretti shooting and disputed and/or rationalized claims about his race-soldiers actions that led to his death that did him in. He was embarrassing Trump.

As for Bovino’s replacement, the putative border czar Tom Homan, will begin his leadership role of Immigration and Customs Enforcement operations in Minnesota almost immediately.

Trump has also called Minnesota Governor Tim Walz. Trump’s comments following that call were also virtually diametrically opposite from the withering criticisms, threats, and posturing against Walz from just one day earlier.

“We, actually, seemed to be on a similar wavelength,” the president wrote in a social media post.

Walz, in a statement, said the call was “productive” and called for impartial investigations into the killings/murders. Unable to help himself, Trump responded by saying that his administration was looking for “any and all” criminals the state has in their custody. Walz noted that the state Department of Corrections honors federal requests for people in its custody.

Commentary

Rumors and unsubstantiated reports are flying across Washington that other high-up Trumpers may be on the chopping block as well.

That is because it has finally gotten through to Trump that he is not a king or a dictator, and that “the people” will put up with his racist grifts and corruption only so far.

Visuals of 50,000 mostly white Minnesotans marching against him in subzero weather simply could not be ignored, rationalized, or quashed.

Couple those demonstrations with nosediving poll numbers and…well…that’s what gets Trump’s attention.
