Antigone sits in the belt like a stubborn aunt. Astronomers catalog it as (129) Antigone, discovered by C. H. F. Peters on February 5, 1873. It orbits between about 2.26 and 3.48 AU from the Sun, taking roughly 4.86 years to make a lap according to Wikipedia.
The name pulls straight from the Greek play. Antigone refuses to bury her brother under the king’s orders. She chooses family and right over law and safety and she pays for it….classic.
That myth carries into astrology when you use the asteroid as a symbol: Antigone marks where we will stand against authority for the sake of an inner code, where we insist on what feels morally true even if it breaks the social script. It also points to family graves, inherited secrets and what we bury and then refuse to forget.
In the natal chart, Antigone shows the place where you meet moral cost.
For example, fourth house Antigone draws family loyalty into sharp focus, tenth house Antigone can make you clash with institutions in public.
In aspect to personal planets she intensifies conviction: against a Moon it can show someone who takes grief as a kind of duty, against Mars it can make you fight for family lines, against Saturn it can lock you into honor that costs you freedom.

Think of Antigone less as doom and more as spine since it highlights the moral reflex that will not bend. Sometimes that reflex saves you. Sometimes it traps you in a martyr role. In practice, Antigone placements ask two questions: what would you refuse to let go of, and what price would you pay to hold it? Answering those questions in a reading gives the asteroid shape and tone. For people who grew up with strict or public parents, Antigone will often point right at those living patterns. For people who suddenly act against the family, Antigone names the inner law that pushed them.
