Mom beat nonverbal autistic daughter to death because she ‘didn’t want this child anymore’

Family calls mother “pure evil.”

A Michigan woman is behind bars after she allegedly beat her 14-year-old daughter with autism because she “didn’t want this child anymore.”

Vangie Renee Averhart, 37, was arraigned, and bond was denied. Averhart is accused of fatally assaulting her daughter.

Prosecutors detailed disturbing findings during the arraignment, including the medical examiner’s report, which ruled the girl’s death a homicide caused by severe blunt force trauma to the back of her head.

The injuries were comparable to those sustained in a high-speed car crash, with evidence of intracranial hemorrhaging consistent with significant blunt force.

Kylee was still alive when she was brought to the hospital, but doctors had to remove a portion of her skull due to the swelling.

The family had Kylee on life support for several days. She never woke up.

Investigators said Averhart gave multiple inconsistent explanations for her daughter’s death.

First, she claimed the girl choked on a sandwich, then on a banana.

She also accused her boyfriend, but he passed a lie detector test and was not around at the time of the incident, the Metro Detroit News reported.

Officials say the 14-year-old victim had special needs, was non-verbal, and lived in a locked room.

Multiple Child Protective Services reports had been filed over the years expressing concerns for her safety.

Kylee’s father had been trying to obtain custody over the summer and had grown increasingly worried about Kylee’s well-being.

Kylee’s obituary said she “left an everlasting mark on the hearts of those who knew her.”

“Kylee had a vibrant soul and a beautiful way of experiencing the world. She loved music — it filled her days with joy and comfort — and she was always happiest when she had her favorite snacks nearby,” the obituary said. “She saw beauty in every color and brought brightness into every room with her spirit. With a love for textures, sensations, and using her hands, Kylee found joy in the little things many might overlook. Whether it was a soft blanket, a crunchy snack, or a rhythmic song, she embraced the world in her own unique way.”
