To kick-start our Medium, we decided to use this space to tell us a little about ourselves and what we want with this new communication channel.

Getting to know CEPI of the Law School of FGV SP

The Center for Education and Research on Innovation (in portuguese: Centro de Ensino e Pesquisa em Inovação — CEPI) is the result of more than 10 years of experience in teaching and researching at Law School of FGV SP. It arose from the merger of the Grupo de Ensino e Pesquisa em Inovação (GEPI), the school branch dedicated to the relationship between Law and new technologies, with the Núcleo de Metodologia e Ensino (NME), dedicated to teacher training, teaching methodologies teaching and developing teaching-learning strategies to enable students to meet the professional requirements of the 21st century.

CEPI’s researchers (2019)

We are more than 20 researchers, from different areas — Law, Political Science and Computer Science, among others -, under the coordination of professors Marina Feferbaum and Alexandre Pacheco. We are dedicated to research and we seek to lead qualified debates, based on data, on the impacts of new technologies on society.

We also aim to meet the need for continuous improvement of FGV Direito SP’s education programs to train a professional prepared to work in a society in constant transformation. For this reason, we focus on discussions about the future of the legal professions and participatory education methods, not only because of the impact of technology in the practice of law, but also because of the effects on the shaping of future professionals in the field.

In summary, CEPI’s activities aim to promote: (i) the insertion of debates about Law and new technologies in the curricula of undergraduate and graduate legal courses; (ii) the qualification of public debates, judicial decisions, laws and regulations on issues related to the agenda of Law and new technologies; (iii) the consolidation of a space for empirical research and applied knowledge with a high social impact on Law and technology based on current and innovative projects and themes that dialogue with different sectors of society.

Our Medium

We decided to create our Medium to have a space for disseminating the knowledge we produce in our teaching and research projects (which you can learn more about on our page on Academia.edu). Every 15 days, and whenever we have something relevant to the current moment, we will publish a new article to discuss interesting aspects diagnosed in our daily research.

In here, we are going to talk about many themes such as misinformation in elections, hate speech, data protection, digital human rights, legal education, cryptography, artificial intelligence, the future of the legal professions and more. We hope to meet you here!
