How My Journey For Less Clutter Is Going

I was scrolling through my published stories and realized it’s been a few years since I last wrote about my journey with minimalism, which you can read here, here, and here.
So, for those who were here for that, I’m so glad you’re still here. And for those who are new, follow along.
What is Minimalism?
Despite what social media tries to tell you, it’s not about owning nothing or having a sterile environment.
But rather being intentional about the possessions you own, avoiding impulse buying, and not being unnecessarily attached to any item.
Because the more you own, the more it weighs you down.
When I Started

I started four years ago, which just shocked me. So much time has passed, and yet so little at the same time.
That’s just wild.
Why I Started
I was getting tired of things that I didn’t use taking up space. I was living in the mobile home at the time, so there wasn’t much space to spare, especially in my old room.
And, for the most part, I’m not very sentimental when it comes to material possessions. So I decided to reduce what I owned.
Why Only Quasi?
Because while I love a clean space with minimal decor, I don’t want a bare or sterile room. I like having personality in my living space.

So here’s the long overdue update:
Items
It’s hard to say.
Aside from my Chromebook and loft, the only things I really buy myself are personal care items.
However, people sometimes do give me gifts just because, like my boyfriend and my parents. And 90% of my belongings are still in Washington, in my parents’ house, in my old bedroom.
And while I did get rid of a lot of it before moving, I don’t know how much stuff is still there.
Clothing
I think I have more clothes now than I ever have as an adult. But I’ve also never lived with females who are around my size, clothing-wise, before. So they’re free.
And I love my new clothes. Plus, I still do purges when they do, so I do rotate my wardrobe.
Selling Stuff on Facebook Marketplace/Donating it
I have been trying to sell items on Marketplace, and I’ve sold a couple so far.
I’ve also given away bags of clothes via Buy Nothing groups on Facebook (groups where people give away items for free). And we’ve gotten cool and practical stuff for the apartment.
So it’s something to look into.
It’s Easier Than You Think
I know a lot of people are either maximalists/have difficulty letting items go, so I understand why it might be hard. But you don’t need to go full minimalist.
And you can start small. In fact, you should start small, and by item category. It’ll make things less daunting.
But give it a try. You’ll be amazed.
