LEXINGTON, Va. — The Washington & Lee women’s volleyball team brought an end to Averett University’s season with a 3–0 sweep of the Cougars in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Tournament quarterfinals Tuesday night.

N0. 12 W&L, also ranked as the tournament’s top seed, defeated Averett 25–13, 25–17 and 25–18.

The eighth-seeded Cougars took a 7–4 lead early in the third set courtesy of Allie Wilkerson’s kill off a feed from former Tunstall standout Kinsley Stevens. The Generals took it from there, ripping off five straight points for a two-point edge on a Cougars’ attack error.

Averett (12–19) scored three of the next four to knot the score at 10–10 on Emma Nash’s kill on a pass from Dayton Moore. W&L (30–2) eked back in front on Riley Debiec’s kill off a feed from Allie Buchholz but Averett tied things up again on Nash’s kill. That’s as close as the Cougars got as the Generals responded with a 7–2 run that gave them an 18–12 lead on Grace Mitchener’s kill.

Nash, in her last match, led Averett with 17 kills while Moore added 19 assists and Stevens capped her career with 11 dimes. Gray, playing in her last match, recorded a match-high 23 digs while Moore added nine.

Mitchener paced W&L with a double-double of 11 kills and 13 digs. Debiec led the Generals with 12 kills while Buchholz added 29 assists. Mitchener led W&L in digs while Avery Myers and Vivi Vasquez added 11 apiece.
