Alert: A few fun habits to develop a playful mindset are coming up.

“Hamzaaaaaaaa, doodling again? When will you ever get serious about your studies?”

That was one of my schoolteachers shouting at me in my school days.

Honestly, it was not my fault.

What could I do if I got infected with doodling germs early on?

I was classified as non-serious at school.

Now, a brain scan will show that I have a playful mindset.

I try to harness energy and enthusiasm in everything I do. The objective is to find joy even in the most boring work.

At times, even consistent writing for Medium becomes boring for me. So I try to add some humor to it to make it fun for me to write and for you as well to read.

This mindset that was once branded as frivolous is now considered the key to unlock creativity at home and especially at work.

In today’s uncertain times, an executive, be it a janitor or a CEO, with a playful mindset is considered a cheetah (hero) in the corporate world.

They are the ones who come up with the best creative ideas to solve difficult problems.

My best ideas come when I am sleeping, in the shower, walking, or playing with my kids.

The only place that haunts the best ideas is the workplace.

Therefore, corporate leaders are on the lookout for in-house executives who have a playful mindset. They then place them in teams to brainstorm and generate original, creative, and innovative ideas. This also helps to create a positive work environment.

A few basic habits you can develop for a playful mindset in your work environment:

  • Ask what-if questions about your corporate life, like, what if you sent your memos on paper airplanes in your corporate halls instead of sending emails? (This question is already giving me playful ideas.)
  • Instead of writing a corporate strategy, make a board game for strategy on an A4 paper sheet.
  • Throughout your day, make a conscious effort to identify ten new things about any experience, object, memo, report, office layout, colleague, or customer you encounter in your office.
  • Instead of writing your required stationery list, next time, draw doodles of the objects you want to get from the relevant department.
  • Daily, greet your spouse, kids, and office colleagues in a new way.
  • Use simple shapes to draw objects and stick figures when solving problems or brainstorming on whiteboards.
  • Play with different designations and titles of your colleagues.
  • Find new uses for office items.
  • Invite your child to spend a day with you in the office. At the end of the day, ask him for his potential suggestions.

I am no one to convince anyone to be playful, but maybe the 2019 Forbes article will convince you, which highlighted the significance of play for adults, noting that it can increase productivity by 20%.

Play is often misunderstood as just being about fun and games, but it actually involves a natural curiosity, creativity, and experimentation that promote growth and development.

As a result of my early childhood doodlia (I just made it up), I have my own startup for doodling and cartoon development today. I named it Wisdumbs.com

Let me know what you think about having a playful mindset.
