Crypto Icons… Benjamin Cowen

This will be the first in a series of reviews on commentators operating in the crypto space (or as Ben would call it, the cryptoverse). It is important to bring attention to the content creators who are setting incredible high educational standards.

These creators will help the industry and bring the next 100m users to the crypto space.

Benjamin Cowen and Dubious Speculation

Ben is a crypto commentator and is 9th on the list of top 20 YouTube vloggers of 2021 (https://cryptoweekly.co/top-cryptocurrency-youtubers). He has a PhD in Engineering and a background in Computational Mathematics and Programming. He knows his stuff…

Name: Benjamin Cowen

Known for saying: Dubious speculation (my favourite, for the record), hold the line, playing in the sandbox, lets go ahead and jump back into the cryptoverse

Specialisation: technical analysis, patterns, metrics, comparisons and trends

Why Ben Then?

Over the course of 2021, I have watched 2–3 videos a week on Ben’s channel. These have covered not only Bitcoin and Ethereum but also Polkadot, Cardano, Chainlink to name a few. Most I had researched personally but it was the analysis, explained in simple terms which makes the difference. From highlighting the long and short term bottoms through to potential points of resistance and price discovery scenarios.

In addition to the technical analysis on coins, he has also conducted several must see interviews with other commentators who have alternative narratives on price and market progression. The pick of the bunch are:

Michael Saylor (Microstrategy) https://youtu.be/x1LvKmW_lXk

You can see from the interview just how passionately Saylor is about Bitcoin (and only Bitcoin). However, only in these discussions can you really see the enjoyment and enthusiasm people have in the crypto space.

For the record, Microstrategy is the largest corporate holder of Bitcoin. Since this chart was created they have purchase another few thousand.

Plan B (Stock to Flow Model) https://youtu.be/sWXnUc8IMLs

A different video to the Saylor interview. This was based around the fundamentals on the StF (Stock to Flow) model and how it has tracked the BTC price unerringly well for the past 10 years.

The StF model does predict the average price of $1m for Bitcoin within the next 5 years.

Both videos are a must watch for the content, education and perspectives shown by the guests.

Who Should Watch Ben?

If you are looking for meme coins or new projects then Ben is not for you. He is a serious guy (feel free to leave a comment on his YouTube channel about his number 5…) with a very dry sense of humour.

A basic understanding of charts and TA (technical analysis) is needed but not important. He explains in his 10–20 minute videos similar techniques each episode so you pick it up fairly easily.

As an aide, please check out this quick overview (including video) on Investopedia: https://www.investopedia.com/terms/m/movingaverage.asp

In a nutshell, there is a universal appeal in watching Ben for understanding the main cryptocurrencies (Bitcoin, Ethereum etc.). Whether the market is pumping, dumping or consolidating, he is a calm port in what can be a very thundery storm.

A Few Words From Ben…

A big thanks to Ben for answering a couple of questions for the review. Please take the time to head over to his YouTube and Twitter accounts and give him a follow.

Why do you feel it is important to do what you do?

Ben: “Basically just I want to help people achieve financial independence and not have to stress about money.

What is important for people to the crypto space to do in terms of research, investing and hodling?

Ben: “Everyone should find projects that they think the market will value. I also tend to bet on people, rather than always just the project. You need a good project, but also the right person to run it. Many projects fail because they lack someone with the proper vision.

How do you deal with market corrections? Do you have a mental exercise to cope?

Ben: “Dealing with corrections is easier if you have spare cash to DCA into the market and a multi-year time horizon. The rest is noise.
