WordPress on OpenLiteSpeed vs LEMP: Real Benchmark Results

Choosing a web server for WordPress is often based on habit, not data. We tested two popular stacks under identical conditions to see what actually performs better: classic LEMP (Nginx + PHP-FPM) vs OpenLiteSpeed with LSCache.

Two identical servers, same WordPress setup, real load tests. No synthetic marketing claims, only measured results.

What we found:

1. Cached performance (static content) OpenLiteSpeed clearly dominates:

• 4–10× higher requests per second
• Much lower latency under load
• TTFB: 23 ms vs 807 ms (≈35× faster)

This is largely due to built-in LSCache and tighter integration with PHP.

2. Resource usage Efficiency difference is significant:

• ~11× less RAM usage
• ~1.7× lower CPU load

For small VPS setups, this can directly reduce hosting costs.

3. High concurrency behavior

• OpenLiteSpeed performs extremely well up to ~300 concurrent users
• Beyond that, it starts dropping connections
• LEMP, in contrast, slows down but continues to serve all requests

So the difference is not just speed, but how systems fail under pressure.

4. Dynamic content (no cache) Here the picture flips:

• LEMP is ~3–4× faster
• More stable without tuning
• OpenLiteSpeed requires manual LSAPI configuration to avoid bottlenecks

Out of the box, LEMP handles parallel dynamic requests better.

Bottom line:

• If most of your traffic is cached (blogs, content sites), OpenLiteSpeed offers significantly better speed and efficiency
• If your workload is dynamic or you expect unpredictable traffic spikes, LEMP is more stable and predictable

The trade-off is simple: peak performance vs stability under load.
