What Would I Do First If I Had Time and Financial Freedom?
I recently asked myself a simple question:
What Would I Do First If I Had Time and Financial Freedom?

I recently asked myself a simple question:
If I had enough money and enough time, what would I choose to do first?
Not something for work. Not something to impress others. Not something that would be judged or evaluated.
Just something meaningful and enjoyable — for me alone.
The answer surprised me.
It was drawing.
For a long time, I believed that to draw a place, I had to be there in person. If I wanted to paint a harbor in Spain, I thought I had to travel to Spain first.
But I was wrong.
This realization came from something quite ordinary — a picture printed on a bread box.

Inside the packaging of an artisan loaf, there was a small illustration of a Spanish harbor. I looked at it and thought:
“How wonderful it would be to sit there and draw.”
Then another thought appeared.
“Why not draw it now?”
So I picked up my notebook and began.

The beginning is always awkward.
Can I really recreate something another artist drew so beautifully? Am I wasting my time?
The doubts arrived exactly as expected. But instead of fighting them, I let them pass through — and kept drawing.

Little by little, the page began to fill.

Once I reached the halfway point, something shifted. I no longer wanted to quit. I wanted to see it through.
About an hour later, I put down my pen.
The result wasn’t as polished as the original. But that wasn’t the point.
A blank page had become a drawing. That was enough.

As I looked at the finished sketch, I thought about how wonderful it might feel to draw at an actual Spanish harbor someday.
But then something became clear.
What I truly enjoy is not being in Spain.
What I enjoy is drawing.

We often convince ourselves that we need the right place, the right time, or the right circumstances before we can begin. But when we look closely, the obstacle is rarely what it appears to be.
Before deciding something is impossible, it’s worth asking honestly:
Is that really the reason?
Because sometimes the excuse we believe is only hiding the real reason we haven’t started yet.
