Types of hiring managers in India

It’s been 7 months since I started trying to find a job, but apparently finding a job and a decent man in this economy seems like a far-fetched idea.

After giving multiple interviews, talking to HRs, submitting assignments, and getting rejected at the last stage of the process, I have seen it all.

I have met the worst kind of recruiters in this process, and today I want to introduce them to you.

The professional ghosters

This category will do a first call, ask for all your work links, make you do a long-ass assignment, then an after-assignment call to take all your ideas, only to ghost you by the end.

The mystery of why you got rejected will remain unsolved. The lesson I took from such experiences: always ask about the interview process and rounds in the first call itself.

The Ranbir Kapoor category (Clueless)

The most terrifying one is when the recruiter puts out the vacancy and later realises they don’t want to hire for the position they advertised for. They are like Ranbir Kapoor in every movie — clueless. All they know is they want someone dynamic, a rockstar, a ninja and someone who can beat an AI.

These kinds of recruiters will waste all your time in calls and random assignments. My learning: the moment you know they are not hiring for the position they advertised for, ask them clearly what they want and if it aligns with what you want.

The struggler employer

This category is the most interesting and frustrating at the same time. They want someone with 10+ years of experience who has done it all. They will make you do an assignment, only to realise they can’t even match your basic salary. I mean, why don’t you check your budget first

The heartbreakers

The interview went really well. You were literally joking with the interviewer on the call. The vibe was vibing. You have banger answers to all the questions; the interviewer was finding your jokes funny — only to reject you. A real heartbreak might not hurt, but this really makes your question everything around you. This failure takes days to deal with. You want closure, but all you get is ‘we are moving with a different candidate.’

I really hope to meet a sorted recruiter.
