It’s been a rough week. Both of my sons broke up with their girlfriends on July 4th, and I’ve been cried on, had snot rubbed on me, and listened to the horrors of how life has treated people that I care about.
I’ve dealt with the police, met my son’s neighbor Kenny completely by accident, and spent the night sleeping on an uncomfortable couch while the person I was supposed to be watching sat outside on the phone.
I’ve heard horrible tales told about my sons, and heard horrible tales told about their girls until I don’t know what to think.
To top it off, in just a few days, it will be the five-year anniversary of my next older sister getting killed in a car wreck. We still don’t know what the hell happened or why she was going 100 miles per hour just fifty yards from her driveway. We will never know because the car caught on fire after hitting a tree and completely burned with her in it. We think it was a medical issue.
To this day, her estate has not been settled, and I’m gearing up to confront my brother-in-law. Her children deserve some of her belongings.
The car fiasco happening at my son’s house is almost humorous compared to everything else. All of their cars broke down at once, so my husband has loaned out all of ours but mine. My great-niece lives with my son and his now-ex-girlfriend, and I finally called her father and insisted he find her a dependable car to drive.
So much for minding my own business.
I decided to take a mental health day for myself. I slept late, spent three hours in the pool, did only what I felt like doing in the house (not much), and binged-watched reality TV on Tubi while coloring in my coloring book.
I don’t know who was calling me on the phone. It rang all day. I didn’t answer it or look at it. Anyone who really needs me will call me on the house phone or message me on Messenger.
No one did. Thank goodness.
Unfortunately, I couldn’t turn off my mind. My almost daughter-in-law’s fathers are coming next week, and I’m supposed to help entertain them. The original plan was for her and my son to get married, and that’s why I became ordained.
It’s going to be weird. What are we going to say to each other? Meanwhile, my great-nephew is getting married next year. Maybe I can officiate at his wedding.
The good news is that my body was so relaxed that I forgot to take my medication. Only when my knee gave me a “what the heck” signal did I realize I had skipped it.
I spent the afternoon writing a story. I haven’t done that in a while. I’m trying to adopt that old saying from the song. You know the one.
“Don’t worry, be happy”
Love
